There is no way of getting around the Hobet test for Penn Valley's Practical Nursing Program. I went to Penn Valley's LPN Nursing program and it is mandatory that you take the entrance test. You got to pass it to get into the LPN program. There are no shortcuts in nursing although there are alot of side street schools out there that offer Nursing Programs and somehow people are able to enter the Nursing program without taking the entrance test but they cost a lot of money to go to and you don't have the Nursing Skills that you are suppose to have, which makes and incompetent nurse.

Thank you. I am preparing to take the test soon.

That is great!! Good luck on your test. It's not that bad:)

I am currently working on steps to get into Penn valley for the partical nursing program. I just want to know if you would have to take the pre requisite and whatever you fail on the compass test at the same time??

Yes, for example if you take the compass test and you are placed in foundational math which is called Math 20 at Penn Valley. You would then need to complete Math 20, Intermediate Math and College Algebra before applying for the program.

Do you have to take the compass test again before applying even if I took all the classes it said I needed?

Yes, you have to take the compass regardless of whether or not you have taken remedial or above classes. It is a mandatory requirement for the nursing program. The good news is that if you have already taken those classes it would not matter if you got below the mandatory scores. For instance, I took college algebra 20+ years ago. On the compass I got below the min score in algebra but because I already have college algebra with a "C" or higher I did not have to take any remedial classes. I was assured of this by the nursing office and academic advisors.

I applied for the professional program this fall and am now anxiously waiting for a letter in the mail.

Good luck!

Oh well that's good at least!! Good luck, when will you hear?

I can confirm what Lilacs said, I had to retake my COMPASS because it was over three years old. I did horribly on the math section since I didn't study (I wanted to see what I needed to concentrate on for my TEAS studying time) but the ladies at the testing center at Blue River assured me it didn't matter since I had taken all of the prerequisites already. Academic advisors and nursing program personnel also confirmed this to be true, so... Don't sweat the COMPASS, they just really want it on your transcript, I guess.

I've heard rumors that we may find out later this month about getting into the fall program, but who knows. I've been obsessively checking my mailbox and email ever since I sent in my application.

I called the nursing dept today and got some of my questions answered. I was surprised they answered, both times I called!

Yay! Hopefully you hear soon, I'm not good with waiting when it comes to stuff like that. Yikes. When did you apply?

I've been making my boyfriend's life hell since I sent my application off (by certified mail, and I had it tracked, and required a signature upon receipt, lol) the first or second week of August. It's been a looooong wait! I REALLY hope we hear something soon one way or the other.
