Hello, I have registered to take Lifespan Development online at a neighboring community college since my school does not offer any of my prereqs during the winter session. I have been told by someone in admissions that there is no financial aide during the winter session but they suggest that I speak to financial aide about the specifics. I have left a message with financial aide but from my experience, they never call back. I am worried that I may have to drive all the way to the campus just to get an answer (1 hr away). I am wondering if anyone has ever taken a class during the winter session, and if so, did you pay out of pocket for the whole thing? were you able to apply for a loan ? did grants cover it? I am currently only enrolled part time at my college so I should have some available funds left over but I don't know if the school will let me apply it to this winter course. I do not have the funds to pay out of pocket for the course and am worried that I am going to have to drop the class.
How did you pay for Winter session? thoughts ? advice?

You should be able to go online to your college's website and check and see if you have a credit left to apply. But if that was a financial aid check that paid your Fall tuition I would think they would have already sent you what was left of that.

I have taken some winter session courses at community college and the financial arrangements were (1) if you were a current student the fees were added to the spring term and financial aide could be applied to those fees or (2) if you were not a current student the entire amount due was payable prior to the start of class....
Different colleges will have different policies.

My community college doesn't cover winter classes with financial aid either. I bounced back and forth between the business office and the financial aid office trying to make some magic happen but didn't have any luck. One person would tell me "sometimes you can get it" and another would say "nope, that never happens." So, I don't have any advice, just commiseration, unfortunately. As for how I paid for it, it was $600ish out of pocket to take one stupid computer class. I took the money out of my wedding savings, very begrudgingly. Does your school at least offer a payment plan? That would have been my next step if I didn't have all the money available at once. Good luck!
MissCris, I was hoping that this was not the case. yes, I believe they do offer payment plans so I am going to call the business office on Monday. The class it $538 plus books, and although I am working full time, I live on my own and am paying rent, utilities, car note etc and I just dont have it. I dont understand why we cant apply loans to the winter...its my money to pay back! ughh, I am praying for a miracle.

I am assuming that they do not consider me a current student since this is my first class at this college, however all of the community colleges in the area are connected and we use the same portal and have the same student id and login. Ill have to contact someone in the business office to see what the policies are. Thanks ! Ughh

One of the benefits of my divorce is that my ex has to pay for all of my schooling. That was a huge relief for me since I didn't want to have to take out any loans. I told him it was my payment for putting up with his cheating butt for 15 years.

No advice about payment, but I noticed you're in CT. I'm taking Human Growth and Development in Winter at North Shore, where are you taking the course? I'm in MA. :)

There is aid during the winter;I transferred in the middle of the year as well. What I did was after finals I withdraw from theschool I attended. Applied to the school that had the classes I needed filledout the fasfa and I as accepted. You should have your full remaining aid at theschool that has the class unless you have use it all during the fall semesterwhich I don't know who one could do that. You don’t want to go to the otherschool as a transient student because there will be no aid for you at all. Thatmay be what the advisor was telling you about
Ughh I had to drop the class. They would not offer me any kind of financial aide or payment plan...i am so annoyed.

Hi! I've paid for two winter sessions courses. General Psychology and Computer Applications. The nursing school I'm applying to requires 31 prerequisites before you can transfer into their school. After I'm done with the winter session courses I'll have 27 credits. I had to pay $100 for each class (pretty cheap to me) and pay for my books.
