My dear, sweet Mother-in-law gave me a full ride scholarship, basically. I'll be able to just take care of my home and husband and go to school. (Well, Ihave to do some work here on the farm, but it's not too bad). I feel very very lucky!:yeah:

Me too. 1 semester of college = approx. 1.5 weeks of pay. Mind you it is a CC. A couple of my coworkers are using loans but ugh. Life is hard enough without owing Uncle Sam.

What???? WOW! what job did YOU have before going into nursing?????

i only make 1500/month, and with rent (in Miami), car, car insurance, credit card bill, internet, phone, utilities, food (no restaurants), and student loan payoff from unused bachelor's degree, I've got NOTHING left to pay for school......

however, when i filled out my FAFSA, they calculated my expected contribution to be 8,000 smackers!!! how do ya figure????? that's over a third of my income!!!!!! i'm a pretty frugal gal, too....no movies/dvds/dining out/travel budget here......just the basics. :bluecry1:

sigh.

hopefully i get some loans, despite this calculation. i'm a little anxious about it. i intend to work part-time, but that only covers some of my expenses, not including tuition and books. not eligible for scholarships: i'm white, female, and have a job, and no kids, so i'm not exactly a unique nursing demographic....LOL

good luck to you all:heartbeat

You should be able to qualify for a Stafford loan (loan, not necessarily a grant) despite your income. Check with your school's financial aid office, and good luck. I am going to be living off of student loans too!!

Student loans. I think that nursing will be well worth it though.

I'm actually really lucky. I haven't had to get any student loans because my mom is helping me out. I'm recieving a scholarship that will continue to pay my tuition as long as I keep a 3.0. I work 3 shifts a week as a server and use this for any other bills. My mom helps where ends don't quite meet.

I'm very fortunate to have received an amazing scholarship that will pay 90% of my unmet need.

So, my big financial aid number (including tuition, fees, books, room & board, etc) minus my other scholarships and grants, and minus a thousand dollars (which is a work expectation for the year)....whatever's left they pay 90% of until I graduate.

Peace,

Welllll..

My work will pay 5,000$ toward it (I will be going to a public university so that will cover about half), if I sign on for two years of work after graduating.

I'm going to try for scholarships, FAFSA said I have 'need' of about 2200$ a year.

And I will be working during school, so I plan to cover the rest out of pocket. I really hope I don't need any loans.

Right now, just finishing pre-req's/other degree requirements at a CC, my work pays 1,000$ a year and I cover the rest out of pocket.

Try for a non-nurse job at a hospital! Hospitals (around here, at least) always seem to pay unexpectedly well and tend to be understanding about nursing school scheduling. Plus they tend to be especially helpful with paying for your nursing school, if you commit to work for them for a bit afterward.

scholarships! There are so many out there! Lots of thankful people want more nurses and are willing to pay to fund them. Also, some hospitals will also pay for your tuition if you agree to work for them following your schooling(but make sure it's a good hospital or you're stuck), federal loans, apply for FAFSA on the web(student financial aide). Make sure you go to your school's financial aide center and look for more resources! Good luck!

I get financial aid but with all the added costs it doesn't pay all - we have to pay membership fees and raise money for stupid events and it is a big burden when you have a family like I do and a husband out of work.

I, up til now, have been paying out of pocket. I am hoping financial aid will kick in this semester, but if not, I plan on doing a loan for my last three classes...I got this far without it, but times are tough right now with everything costing more, so just to take the burden off of us, that is what I'm going to do. I will probably end up paying about $2500 back in loans, so it won't take me too long to do that. I just didn't want to start off my career and be making what I'm making now because I have to pay off my loan and I don't want to have to pay it for years. So, I've been lucky enough to pay for it up til now!
