i'm not sure if this is an inappropriate question, if it is please ignore it and me :uhoh21: ...but how much can starting rn's expect to make? range wise.
thanks!
I am a new grad in Wash St (SW) where base pay is 23.41/hr + 2.40/hr for Eve's and 3.20/hr for NOC's also time and a half after 8hrs and double time after 10hrs and 5$/hr more for any extra shifts, on-call pay is somewhere around 5$/hr not sure. All departments are the same pay d/t union RN's, only differences are in years worked...think top end for 10+ yrs is 38-40$/hr.
The biggest plus is NO MANDATORY OVERTIME!!! (state law I believe...not sure)
I don't understand people wanting to live in Cali...ugh...traffic, smog, plastic women, and crazy real estate prices--not for this guy.
I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia and my base rate is $24, $1.50 for evenings and $2.00 for nights. Not sure about weekends. Time and a half for holidays. That's pretty much average around here though I did interview at a hospital that I would have started out at $30/hr if they hired me.
I believe you would make enough money in California to pay rent, plus do other things. There is a thread started by someone titled, 'How in the world do you make it in California!?' on this thread, many people replied and I specifically remember someone saying she makes enough money to pay rent, own a brand new car, and has lots of money left over. Someone else also mentioned something to the effect of making enough money to pay rent, but home buying would be a different story. Check out that thread. If you can, take a vacation there just to check things out. Good luck.
Thanks for the info! Still doing research...also looking at Arizona. I just have to go West!
in mn most new grads in the metro area make 24.86/h in the hospitals. differentials are 1.25/h more for weekends, 4.00/h for working straight nights and 2.50/h for eve shifts. at my hosp. if you are asked to work an extra shift above your appointed hours you get 50.00 more on the weekdays and 100.00 more on weekends + any ot earned over 8 hours.
if you are a lpn/lvn most hospitals pay for up to 4-6 years for prior exp. so lpn's to rn's here may start around 27-30/h. base pay.
cost of living here not too bad....winters here are very very cold!
hope this helps

I live in Missouri. The base is 21.00 an hour. 2.00 for evenings/nights and 2.00 (I think) for weekends. For weekend option people any work beyond the two days is automatically time and a half. I love where I work - they are going to pay back my school loans 100% over three years, after I have been there a year, they will pay 100% of my tuition for graduate work. In addition, they have a four step process where I go from a "novice" rating to an "expert" rating and receive a 7% pay raise with each step. The school perks and professional step ladder are more important to me than the base rate at this point.
