80 or above is passing!

Is this a pretty common thing now for most Nursing Programs for the minimum average to be a "B"? I wasn't expecting that. I just went to my orientation last night and I start on Monday. I was already stressing about my grades but now I'm really stressed about having very little room for error. I understand that in the real world we are expect to be right 100% of the time but this is school and we are learning completely new material so I just don't see why it can't be at least a C at 70%. I guess I'll have to make sure to study that much harder. Anyway I just wanted to see what other students are growing through. What's your minimum requirement for passing?

I think that's about right. I go to a Minnesota school and anything below 78 percent is fail. We also have to average 78 percent or higher for our exams. I definitely was nervous about this when I started but I've been doing just fine. Just remember to never slack off and every point counts! They don't round up as well. So 77.9 percent is fail.. Goodluck! :)

At my school we have to have an 83% to pass.

Wow you guys have some competitive scoring.

For my program, C= 75% B= 84% and A= 92%

When I first started, I thought it was outrageous that 75% is a C. As I am almost done with my program, 75% is not such a big deal.

Anything below a 78% is an automatic fail.

NY is a C+ is passing (73-75 depends on what school)

Specializes in Geriatrics.

It was normal for my school (brown Mackie college)

B and above here for prereqs. C is a retake. A withdrawal on the transcripts for a core science prereq counts as an F.

At my school you have to have atleast a 75 to pass but at the end they round up your final grade it its .50 and up. But on our Pre-Clinical math exam we have to make an 80 we get two attempts if you fell both you have to withdraw.

At my school 76 is passing and that is a C. An A is 92 and above.

Is there actually any proof to this?

I would look at nursing programs pass rates compared to their grade cut offs. THAT would be your proof. ?

An 80 is a C in my program and the minimum one has to make to pass.

I was in a BSN program at a nationally recognized nursing school, and 70% was still considered passing. We have a 97% NCLEX pass rate, so I don't necessarily think just because you have a higher % required to pass that it means it's a better program or produces better nurses.

I made my share of 70-80s on a few tests and I still managed to graduate with honors and get a job! I think the emphasis on grades is too much, because you can be book smart and intelligent and have zero to no people skills. I saw a LOT of classmates that fell into that category. That will get you nowhere fast in nursing.

Good luck, you can do it!
