80 or above is passing!

Is this a pretty common thing now for most Nursing Programs for the minimum average to be a "B"? I wasn't expecting that. I just went to my orientation last night and I start on Monday. I was already stressing about my grades but now I'm really stressed about having very little room for error. I understand that in the real world we are expect to be right 100% of the time but this is school and we are learning completely new material so I just don't see why it can't be at least a C at 70%. I guess I'll have to make sure to study that much harder. Anyway I just wanted to see what other students are growing through. What's your minimum requirement for passing?

My LPN program requires 80% to pass, but 80% is considered a C. The LPN to RN program I plan to enroll in considers a 75% passing. So honestly I'm glad I started off with such high standards. Maybe the lower requirement will make the transition easier.

80 and above is passing at my school. It sounds scary, it is - but it's going to be okay. I'm 5 weeks out from graduating and I've managed to pull a 4.0 for all terms. Believe me, I'm not one of those super stellar students. If I can do it, so can you! Don't let the 80% threshold psych you out.

Where do you go?

That does seem to be the norm all over the place. I do believe that is a good thing as it weeds out people who would ultimately fail anyways. Nursing school is hard, but you have to cut it..to make it in the real world. Work very hard to get the passing grade...or .....

I don't think there has to be. Kind of common sense, if you can barely pass your classes (so lets say a D is passing, so maybe a 65%) how do you expect to retain all that information you learned and able to pass your boards. I think it is pretty common knowledge that people who get A's are more likely to pass their boards then someone who passed by the seam of their pants.

Anyway- we have to pass with a 76%, I actually think this is a state requirement not an actual school requirement. Our school says if we have less then an 80% we need to stay after class for 2 hours 3 friday's a month to study.

Our program is an 80 or above..and yes it was considered a C. 94-100 A 87-93 B 80-86 C. I have a 90 avg...I think there might be one ore two people higher in my class than that but still in the B range. No one in our class has an A avg for the entire program..maybe one class but not the entire program.

Is there actually any proof to this?

The program I attend for the last 5 years has had a 100% pass rate for those who graduated the class..now the graduation rate was low...about half of those who start end up graduating.
