I know this is an old thread. I just found it and saw some comments on how you would never see an MD wear the charms. CharMED was started by a female physician who wanted to be stylish and creative instead of "ugly scrubs and dreary white lab coats." I kind of like them but It would be up to the place where I worked if I would have them or not. I have also read that they can pull your hair if it gets caught in the stones. I just wanted to pass on the info that the charMED site was started by a doctor so there are those who do wear them.

I am not only a new nurse but I am middle aged. I decided to change careers when I was a month away from 40. I went to CNA class first, then became a CNA. Got into LPN school that spring. Graduated in Aug, passed NCLEX in Sept, started looking the beginning of Oct. Turned in about 15 resumes. Got an interview in an interesting job with very little hours but they hadn't done my background check just said they were extending the offer. While waiting for them to call me to do my finger prints I got a call from some place I had looked at that looked interesting. Interviewed, offered the job that day, waited for my back ground to be completed and started orientation yesterday. The other place took too long to get back with me and I couldn't make both work anyway. The place I got a job at is so far amazing. So far people are great, it is not for profit so all the money gets put back into it. Amazing benefits both like insurance all the way to a gym at the location. Sometimes it takes a while because the right place is waiting for the right time. I know the wait is hard. I had that happen to me when I was laid off of my last career. But everything happens when it is supposed to.

Oy...This has happened every job I have had. I am changing careers right now but when I was in banking I actually got the excuse of "I don't know how..." uhm..ok...

I have an art degree as well as accounting. I put them on there and I blend info from each on my resume if I can explain how it helps me be a better nurse. Art is a little harder to blend that accounting and banking though. Documentation, trustworthiness, privacy, following policies and federal guidelines...ethics...So if you can blend it why not?

I looked up pharmacology mnemonics online. There are many that help one remember so much about them. Also don't just learn just certain drugs..learn the classification of meds, what their actions are, what their side effects are (hint if you know the action and how they work you can figure out what the side effects are without looking if you know how the body works) then focus on the drugs in each classification that stand out and that might have something big time you need to know. I didn't try to learn every single drug..just classifications...look at the ending of the generic names...or sometimes the pre fix of the generic name. That can give you what classification they are.

I took Hurst Review Live...it is a little boring and redundant but it puts everything in a nice little package and makes it rather simple. Even with the live review you get additional videos that aren't in the live lecture..and many times I wanted to bang my head out of boredom with all the repetition but it did help..

I used the study guides on here that a few people put up quite a while ago. I also took Hurst Review. I watched simple nursing videos from you tube..free ones for quick reviews as well. I sent you a private message MMartin94..I didn't check it for a while..sorry.

I looked up mnemonics online as well as videos on youtube. Anything that made the signs and symptoms easier to remember. As for the critical thinking questions you have to know how the body works and what the disease process is to figure those out. So if you don't have some info on how the body works from A&P I would go back and review that system while learning the disease process.

I know in our program they had over 200 people apply but only 25 got in. We had a smaller class than most TCATs. We had 13 students at graduation, so like I said keep outside stress at bay, keep out of drama, and keep studying.

Have you found out yet if you have passed???? I would still be dying if I didn't know.

Thank you everyone! This is a later in life career change..I will be 42 in a little over a month. So far my entire class has shut of at 85 and we have all passed. Our school's pass rate for the NCLEX has been 100% for the past 5 years so we are all terrified we will be the first in a long time to fail
