Passing the NCLEX = RN License?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Assuming that all required documents and test results (TOEFL, etc) are submitted to the state BON, will a successful NCLEX exam automatically result in the issuance of a US RN license by the state BON which approved our application to take the NCLEX?

yes i believe so. u'll see on the bon site ur name with an RN number. well that is how it is in arizona.

Depends on the state. Some states will not issue a license without a SSN so therefore will not see name on website

Which states would require a SSN ?

Your profile indicates you are already in the US, do you have a visa allowing you to work? Which state have you applied to?

I don't have a working visa and I have not applied to any state BON yet.

I just want to find out if I will be able to get a RN license as soon as I pass the NCLEX because I have plans of pursuing a RN to BSN program. One of the requirements to get into this program is a Active RN License.

would this be the only reason for the non-issuance of a licence after passing the NCLEX? So assuming I apply to a state BON that does not require a SSN, would it mean that I will automatically be issued a license after passing the NCLEX?

Quite a few states do not issue a license without the SSN#.

For most of the states, to have an active license will require the SSN#.

And for them it means that you will not be considered a US RN without the license.

The NCLEX exam is only part of the licensing process. Passing alone does not mean an automatic license for a foreign nurse.

I believe Arizona have recently changed and this is what is on their website now

CITIZENSHIP/NATIONALITY/ALIEN STATUS DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED: Federal law, 8 U.S.C. 1641, and a

state law, A.R.S. 1-501, require documentation of citizenship/nationality/alien status for licensure. If the documentation does not

demonstrate that the applicant is a United States citizen, national, or has alien status, the applicant will not be eligible for licensure in

Arizona. All applicants must submit documentation regarding their citizenship/nationality/alien status with their application. See

attached list A & B for specific documentation required. A copy of the documentation you submit must be on 8 ½ x 11 paper.

Thank you very much for that information. I hope you can share with me which states would NOT require a SSN ? :nurse:

Hi! I've been trying to look for threads which can direct me to the answer and so far the only information I have gathered are:

- There are some states that do not require SSN, but they did not specify which ones

- California requires SSN

I hope some of you could be kind enough to share their knowledge with me or direct me to the thead if there is already one existing.

I am aware that BON requirements contiuously change, but at this time, which states do not require a SSN?

I need to get this information as I am going to apply to a ADN to BSN program and their major requirement is a Valid US RN License. I have no SSN so I have to apply for licensure in a state which does not require a SSN to issue a license. Thanks!
