Hi to all! I passed the nclex last 2008. I just got my SSN last month as an employer based immigrant. Just a week ago, I submitted my Completed Application for Licensure by Examination including a U.S. social security number as instructed by the CA BON. My school also forwarded the needed documents.
My questions are:
Has someone gone through the same thing as I am?
What happened?
Did they release your license or not?
If yes: How long did you wait for your license?
If not: What did they say? Can you send me a copy? Did they make you do further studies?
--As i have said, I am on employment based petition, so with this, my employer is waiting for my license. With this, my life is on hold. I hope to be enlightened with this. Thank you so much.

Please advice my friend have been looking for an employer based job who can help with work permit as an RN but where we live they do not offer that anymore.Where did you get this luck. Please let me know and I can look it up see if my friend we can apply for the job.My friend already has SSN and the license so its just a matter of applying for the job and getting hired. That would help a great deal instead of keeping license and don't use it. US needs nurses and the license is just staying idle not being used just because of a work permit. Please advise.
Hi, I will be migrating t the US on february. can i ask my school to send the "request for transcript" without the SS number yet? then I would just send the copy of the SS number if I already have it. I understand that I can only apply for it when I arrive in the US. Thanks a lot . I already passed the exam in 2006, though my score is still valid, I need to apply again as a new applicant.

Are you referring to hospital jobs in CA?
What sort of paid nursing experience does this friend have in terms of years and specialty?
How long ago did this friend graduate from nursing school?
But if your friend already has a valid US nursing license AND a valid ready SSN, your friend can apply like anyone else and good to go, so I'm not clear on why the need for a "work permit"?
Is this SSN one that allows "authorization to work"?
As far as the US needing more nurses, that's no longer the case in today's nursing world: (Click below)

As you can see from the above linked article, there's little to no demand for foreign nurses, especially in hospitals, where the hiring priorities are looking at those that graduated in CA or somewhere in the States, local resident grads or nurses.
While it's not impossible, the unemployment rate for nurses is at high levels, as the US has more than met the current nursing demands and has many unable to secure a nursing job. In another article, the US has produced almost 1,000,000 new grads over the past few years with nowhere to go or they are being absorbed at a much slower rate.
It's not the same nursing demand of years passed.
What state does your friend want to work in?
Hi evanchoy ! Any update on your application? We almost have the same application date and they cashed out my payment november.. Im kinda worried about it... Because until now i havent heard anything from the BRN( if i lack something or any concern from them).. I really do appreciate your response... Thanks in advance!

Hi there Bheybi! Unfortunately, I have not received any updates/letters from the BON myself. But I'm very optimistic that in time they will release our licenses. It is just a matter of time now if it weren't for the transition, I think we would have gotten our licenses by now. Lets all keep our hopes up and post whatever updates we have here. Thanks and Good luck to all of us!

Thanks for your response. My friend SSN does not allow working that is why we need the work permit. He is not a foreign nurse he got his education here in US but with no work permit can not get a job because he is foreign born and have been trying to find an employer who can assist with employer based permit. It has been almost 2 yrs since licensed. He is not choosing can accept a job anywhere in US.
Despite US having many nurses and nursing graduates for some reason there is still shortage of nurses in some areas.

Ahh, okay, thanks for the clarification on your friend's SSN, as it seems it's NOT work authorized, but rather maybe just for ID purposes (like to open a bank account) and or for driving a car purpose, that's a major difference when you said the friend has a "SSN". but still needed a work permit.
You say that there are some areas of nursing shortages, are those in a hospital or non-hospital (nursing home, LTC, SNF, personal care give) job positions? Please clarify this. But if you guys know of these nursing shortages areas, why not simply approach these areas to find a place that needs your friend's help?
You say your friend already has a nursing license but for what state? Then again, you say he's not a "foreign nurse", sorry, I lost you there, please clarify. Plus he still wants to work as a nurse, sorry for the confusion, so he's a foreigner with a US education, please explain.
As you know, that doesn't mean your friend will be qualified as an RN until he/she meets that state's licensing requirements to be able to start work or even apply with some safety knowing they will not have any problems meeting the requirements.
You didn't say how much paid nursing experience your friend has as to be considered for a employer based permit, most employer wants someone with ready to go experience so that they don't have to train meaning they should have at least one year with two years or more the better to be considered, as the total cost of granting an employer based permit comes out of the employer's pocket, not the employee.
Is your friend actually in the States as a legal resident?
Please don't think I'm picking on you, but rather need to get a better idea of what is going on and hope to help resolve your friend's situation.

Oh thank you for your response and equerries but i'll let my friend figure out his situation now.So do not worry about it.I just thought to post this question here to see if anyone had a similar situation since he has not opened an account at allnurses.com.
Thanks anyway.
