Parkland Residency Summer 2020

Updated:   Published

Hello everyone!

I created this thread for those who are interested or applying to the residency program at Parkland for the summer 2020. I'm hoping this thread is helpful for those wanting to talk and ask questions. Good luck to everyone!

Is that how that works? I wondered. I’ve got two units in red that I haven’t heard from yet. But one of the units I interviewed for this afternoon (SICU/PCU) is not and has never been red. (Interview went well for anyone who’s asking. Standard two panels: one leadership and one peer, behavioral questions. I didn’t ask when I would hear back. I don’t need that kind of anxiety in my life. LOL!)

SICU will ask you. What are you scare of? I thought it was a hard question.

? I didn’t think that one was that bad. Lol! I think they just want to know that you’re not arrogant or a know-it-all. You’re supposed to be afraid as a new grad. A little bit of fear can help prevent mistakes. It’s arrogance that’s scary. Good luck to you, friend! I’m sure you did great!

Do you guys know how many they’re hiring for the unit?

My classmate just received an interview from mother/baby today

Do you know if her status on the application changed to anything? My still just says “applied”.

She said her application said reviewing.

My ED one says “Applied”, Burn ICU and PCU say, “We are currently reviewing all applications”.

None are in red.

I have not been called to interview anywhere yet. I’m holding out hope. ?

I didn’t ask the panel. The guy who gave me the tour said it’s usually 10.

I feel like if you don't have experience as a tech or EMT it's really hard to get anything and it's making me feel very discouraged ?

I’ve been an LVN for 12 years and they haven’t contacted me either. Don’t feel bad. I think my first cover letters weren’t that great.

My SICU application says applied and my BICU and MICU applications say we are currently reviewing all applications. None of my statuses are in red. I'm also pretty discouraged at the lack of interviews so far.

Have you checked the requirements? Just asking because some places (like Cook Children’s) won’t take former LVNs in a new grad residency. They say being an LVN counts as professional nursing experience. ??‍♀️

I been a LVN for 7 years and all the residencies I applied to said my previous LVN won't count towards nursing experience I'll basically be starting over.
