parkland jan 2011 residency

I just had an interview on Monday for a nurse resident position in the NNICU. This is my dream job and I want it SOO bad, but I feel like I did not shine as bright as I could in my interview because all the questions were those situation one "tell me about a time...". I still think it went well I just wish I would have said more. I already work on a different floor as a student/tech, so I don't know how much that will affect whether or not they choose me. Any current employees or other people who applied have any information on the residency/hiring process? Is the medication test only if you get offered a position? Thanks for any feedback. :uhoh3:

I applied for the other residency positions and RN I positions as well. I would LOVE to get the L&D position but don't want to get my hopes up there were so many that applied. My recruiter said she could get me an interview in other womens services (that do not have a residency) if I did not get the L&D residency. I would also love an interview for the ER if I get the, we decided to go with other applicants call. Just wondering what other areas were considered if this doesnt work out. Do you know if they are only taking five? That is how many the unit manager said they took last residency and also how many postings there were.

I interviewed today for the L&D residency and she said today was the last day for interviews and they would make their decision in the next week or two, I also want to say she said they are taking 8, but dont quote me on that one, she said originally it was four, but then they upped it.

How did your interview go? I was told there were not going to be any interviews after thanksgiving but I guess that changed :) That is good that they are taking more. I was told choices would be made by next week. I am so ready to know something!!

Yea, I interviewed at the beg. of November and they had told me 8, but I know someone who interviewed the week before Thanksgiving and she said they told her 5. So idk! Good luck to you all.

I think it went okay. Yeah Idk about the number, the way the recruiter was talking was like they did change the number of residents they were gonna take. The unit manager actually told me they used to take like 20 residents.

so how far ahead did you all apply before graduation? or did you wait till after?

DON'T wait until after because there prob won't be much of anything! I started looking out at the beginning of the semester at all hospitals, most will start posting midway through and on.

yeah that is what i was planning on doing...but i graduate at a weird time the first week of august...so im sure they are going to have a lot of may grads as well

anybody heard anything yet?? this is frustrating!

I just found out two hours ago. I was not selected as a candidate. The recruiter said they did over 50 interviews with over 300 applicants. I felt better after I heard the numbers. I was actually really surprised I was not a candidate. I don't graduate till next week but I am a doula and I have L&D experience. I am also a honor roll student, did OB rotation at Parkland, and an active member of AWHONN. If one of you did get selected can you please list your qualifications. Thanks and good luck to the rest of you!!!

NO!! I called my recruiter today and she was out of the office so I called the main line and I was told they are still conducting interviews for L&D this week. I so don't understand, I was told final choices would be made no later than tomorrow but now apparently not!?!? Surely 200 interviews was enough to choose 5-8 well qualified candidates. I was/am really hoping to get a residency but now I really doubt that is going to happen. Good luck to you all hopefully we find out soon!

I guess you posted right before me. So sorry you did not get a position. You sound very well qualified, I know I surely will not get a spot now :crying2: I just wish I would get a call telling me something. I was not sure on the actual #s of interviews and applicants. Do you know how many they are taking? Good luck finding your first nursing job!!
