Are there any people here on this forum that have taken interest into going organic with there food choices? I'm looking to share stories with other people who have taken an active role in eating better nutritionally......I know this will help me in the future with my role as a nurse. I'm thinking of going into nutrition and preventative care nursing. I grew up in a household that ate alot of the wrong foods...hispanic culture. I live a healthy lifestyle now and I'm looking for other people to share words of encouragement and success stories. I have to let you know I am really into this, so I would like to meet other like minded people, if there are any on this website!:)
Pre-nursing @ Riverside Community College

Hi. I have an interest in nutrition and wellness. Do I always eat right....no.
Right now I'm trying to incorporate "Superfoods" into my diet. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0060535679/qid=1121727613/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-8858692-0042427?v=glance&s=books&n=507846
I also bought this book yesterday and am seriously considering doing it. It seems doable to me. And I like her diet the Fat Flush Diet. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0767920457/qid=1121727646/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-8858692-0042427?v=glance&s=books&n=507846
I'm trying to shape up my diet right now. I've always been a fan of organic, but not the prices. I buy things on sale in health food store (there was a good sale on organic beans this week). But the cost of a lot of organics in prohibitive. I always eat organic apples, brown rice, tofu, soy milk, amoung a few other things.
Good luck to you.

Pay very close attention to where your organic foods come from. In the literal sense it means that no pesticides are used, but manure can be used for fertilizer in the soil since it is natural. There was a segment on one of the major national news shows a few months ago about this. Just because it is organic, doesn't necessarily mean that it is healthier.
You should be eating nutritious foods, just know your food source.:)

I am also trying to eat better. I try to go to Whole Foods to shop which I love their store! At times they can be cheaper than the regular grocery store. I don't like all of the extra stuff that they add to food like the high fructose corn syrup. That makes my son really hyper. He has ADHD and a more organic diet helps him. I am also starting to exercise more.

I chose organic wherever possible. Sometimes money is too tight and can't go that route but do try to get the veggies and fruits organic. Also, I frequently eat the morning star organic veggie burgers they are great. :)

I have been a vegie for 10+ yrs now (had bad hotdogs & never went back). Recently we were shopping at Traderjoes & got some organic stuff. My DH told me my mostly organic, homemade speggetti sauce rocks! He said (jokingly) I am revivaling his sauce! It was all vegetarian too! I have friends that tell me organic apples r much better also! Very $$ though. I like MS farms too... the portabello burger is my personal favorite. I like to add the Texturized Vegetable Protein to my sauce sometimes too...makes it chewy!

I have been trying to work my family over to organic foods over the past few years. We started w/ fruits and veggies - and rapidly hooked the family, esp my kids! The flavor and freshness was amazing! Now all meats, dairy, cereals, etc are organic too.
To decrease costs, I buy directly from growers when possible - about 15-19 mos out of the yr here in the midwest (for produce) and year round from the farmers for dairy, meat and eggs. Cost is close to "regular" food from a high end grocer, but the quality is incredible - both dh and I feel so much better knowing that the kids are getting foods hormone and antibiotic free. (He is a vet and has taken issue w/ large animal feed/tx for yrs.)
That is not to say we don't occasionally eat out at a restaurant or buy from the local store - but the bulk of our food is organic.
I agree w/ the poster who said you have to be aware of what you buy and labeling - this is a growing, money-making industry and if you are serious about taking this step, spending the $ - which I believe will pay off in health benefits in the long run - do some reading, and know your vendors!

Yes! Aren't they great
I used to eat lots of meat but after losing over 140+ lbs, I decided I needed to eat more balanced meals and cut out the red meats etc. Well, I couldn't become a total vegetarian but I do mostly consume non meat entrees. I love the MS Chicken strip and wings too, and the black bean burgers as well. I have tried so many brands and I have found that morningstar and Quorn are the only I like. Also, I am lactose intolerant so dairy kinda scares me :chuckle . Have to watch that too :)
I love salads too. You can buy the veggie chicken and cut it up and toss it in the salad....you would never tell it's not meat.
I agree :) I don't like boca because the burgers kinda have a liverish taste to me :stone . Have you tried the morningstar chicken and the meal starters? They are just too good. Also, try Quorn (yellow-orange box)...They have an absolutely good breaded chicken. You can throw it in the oven with some marinara sauce and a piece of mozzarella and it is so good. I'm hungry now :)
