Hello,
I thought I'd start a thread about anyone currently applying to any of the OHSU Nursing programs for the 2014 cohort. I currently have three applications in with them: Accelerated BSN to MSN: Psychiatric Mental Health, Accelerated BSN, and the traditional BSN Program. Has anyone had any word from them? I know that the Accel. programs have closed both their applications. Any word on interviews or scheduling?
I am currently finishing up my preqs at PCC. I am working full-time and am just flustered. I hate not knowing anything with regard to where I stand or what type of candidate they are looking for.
Does anyone else feel similarly?
How did you answer your essay questions?
I'm curious for knowledge to see if I made the boat or missed it completely.

The ABSN to Midwifery students for Fall 2014 have gotten their acceptance letters (they were prepared to wait until mid-March, but they ended up hearing in mid-Feb). Bodes well for us, no? Siiiigh. I should have applied with my GRE behind me so I could get straight into the ABSN-Midwifery program. Hoping Midwifery is still in the stars further down the road. No... we're not getting nervous waiting to hear!!!
Way to go guys. I hope I get to meet you in the ABSN portion. My goal is to immediately gain acceptance in the grad MHNP program so I can stay with the same cohort. Not sure how likely that is, but it's worth a shot. I have the grades, but not the back ground at this point. I'm currently volunteering at the VA in Portland. Does anyone have any other volunteer ideas? I would really love to work with mental health in some capacity, but I've been shot down by the obvious places. I think there are privacy concerns.
Hey there, I volunteer at the Crisis Clinic in Seattle. It's a Crisis Phone Line and its a great experience because you get to work directly with people suffering from mental illness which is hard to get from a volunteer position. I'm not sure if Portland has something similar? I got a lot of good (60 hrs worth!) of mental health training as well. I also volunteer with a community health center that focuses on addiction. I really focused my volunteer positions on mental health as opposed to clinical experience. Not sure if that's what helped get me in or not but it will certainly show you're dedicated and experienced in the field! Good luck and hope to see you for the ABSN!

Portland Women's Crisis Line is the equivalent here. It's fabulous and an amazing experience.

Take into consideration the commute from where you do decide to live-- there is NO student parking up on the hill or on the waterfront. We all commute by bus, bike, or a combination of things. Just a FYI :)
