Hello,
I thought I'd start a thread about anyone currently applying to any of the OHSU Nursing programs for the 2014 cohort. I currently have three applications in with them: Accelerated BSN to MSN: Psychiatric Mental Health, Accelerated BSN, and the traditional BSN Program. Has anyone had any word from them? I know that the Accel. programs have closed both their applications. Any word on interviews or scheduling?
I am currently finishing up my preqs at PCC. I am working full-time and am just flustered. I hate not knowing anything with regard to where I stand or what type of candidate they are looking for.
Does anyone else feel similarly?
How did you answer your essay questions?
I'm curious for knowledge to see if I made the boat or missed it completely.

Agreed. The difference between the ABSN/MSN and the ABSN I thought, was that the ABSN/MSN required a BSN specifically, while the ABSN required a degree other than a BSN.[/quote']If you already have a BSN, then there is no reason to do the ABSN. The ABSN/MSN is for people with a non-nursing bachelor's who already know that they want to be advanced practice nurse and how they want to specialize. It is basically a direct-entry master's where you get the BSN on the way to the MSN, without having to reapply.
I did not interview since I chose to only complete the ABSN portion, I wasn't interested in the ABSN-MSN/DNP route (for which you do interview and you also find out quicker if you are accepted)
School is challenging me in ways I could not imagine before starting this program. We have amazing, supportive, wise faculty- and my cohort is such a kind, compassionate group of people. Currently we are in class every day why we complete skills, and then we have one day off a week. One or two people might be working, several of us have families, but beyond that no one does much besides focus on our studies and the program itself. We just began our hospital rotations this term, which is interesting and we feel like baby nurses for sure.
I feel like the most important aspect of the application, looking back, was the essays. Sure, we all had higher GPAs, were successful in other programs and school- but we all have had experiences which affected us and led us to this path, and we wrote about those moments. So spend time there-- have close friends (and english majors!) edit them. Ensure that your voice is heard and that you actually answer what they are asking.
Let me know if you have more specific questions-- and I look forward to seeing some of y'all on campus and being a peer mentor next year!
Thank you for the information. I am a little happy to hear that they let students who are selecting the accel with MSN/DNP first because that's my first choice! I do hope to bump into you on campus next year and am eagerly anticipating starting classes. I just hope they give those of us who have to interview longer than 1 week's notice which is what seems to have happened to a quite a few applicants last year!
HI Hustonc,
My name is James and I am a current nursing student at OHSU's La Grande campus. I really love it here and this is a great program. I like the idea of having an essay and an interview. The essay is good for those who don't have mostly As. Good luck and ask any questions and I will get back to you!!!
