CONGRATS YOU GUYS!!!!! sorry you had to wait so long. msd123 dont worry about your post bach, if you were accepted into the nursing school, you are pretty much guaranteed admission to UW general - thats what chow said, the nursing school would make sure you would get accepted unless you were missing something. The post bacc will come a little bit later. Happy unicorn it really varies per year! one year they went through 10 (alot of people may reject uw for other schools or personal reasons). This past year they went through like 4. It depends on each year! I hope the rest of you hear good news soon!

@Shelley The license number doesn't really matter haha, like i said half the people don't even have their CNA. If you get invited for the proctored essay, it will be very important on how you answer the questions. I think that if you are able to talk about what you have learned, what you have experienced, and what you will continue to learn and bring a couple examples from your past experience, then not having a lot of recent experience won't bring you down. There were people with alot of experience that weren't accepted because they couldn't get across how their experience relates to nursing, and how relevant their strengths and weaknesses are to nursing, in their writing. as for your extracurricular activities, it doesn't have to be all nursing related. I had random tutoring and sports things and study groups in mine. they just want to see that you don't spend 24/7 studying, and can balance a heavy load (since you have to balance our class load and studying well). If you are chosen for the essay, then use the opportunity to write a fantastic response. About 230 ish get chosen for the essay, they select 95 ish plus wait list people. You just have to out perform a little over half of the people sitting in that room =P

@Shelley. Sorry I haven't gotten back to you! They accept a wide range of applicants. I know people with their CNAs and work experience. I also know people without their CNAs and just volunteer and shadow experience. Don't worry about your grades, my average GPA was very low, since in my undergrad I took alot of bio and chem classes. I personally was in the middle of completing my bachelors in public health, maybe they liked that? I think the resume and essay are very very important. They get to see what you got out of your learning experience, and get to understand how you as an individual think. But as for my background, finished public health while applying, had my CNA, had over 1000 hours of experience since I worked, and had other volunteer opportunities. Everyone out of my group formatted their resume differently so sometimes I really don't understand what they want haha. For the proctored essay: the past 3 years have been choose a patient scenario, then explain why you chose the patient, strengths and weaknesses, and how you will grow professionally and as a person. My advice, it's not really about the patient. I just referenced the patient here and there, but they don't want to know how you will care for them, since you aren't a nurse yet. They want to know what your though process is, and how you will grow from it. I already had examples planned out in my head, which made it much easier to go through. The math questions are simple. If your patient needs X amount of Tylenol per kg. And patient weighs Y kg. How much tylenol will the patient need in a 24 hour period? or like you have 500mg tab of x medication. patient has an order for 1g of x medication. how many tabs would you give? they are simple questions that require like 2-3 steps to get the answer. As to how the first quarter is. We take the full load first quarter with 5 classes (18 credits). We have clinical once a week (we do about an 8 hour shift). If you have already been in university and are use to the class load then it is fine. If you are a transfer, or it has been a while since you have been in school, I can see how it would be overwhelming since the load is not something you are use to yet. You can get through it though. There are pregnant women in the program, there are people working 20+ hours a week, and there are also those with families who commute from a long ways away. It can be done! I hope that helps!

I wanted to report whether my score was high enough to get on the waitlist ( i saw someone with a 81 on the wait-list at a high number)but i didn't get a letter.. I didn't really mind knowing or not so i didn't find out haha. best wishes!

SeattleJess -Everyone has the same deadline - they should receive acceptance/rejected letters roughly around same time within few days. They usually give you 2+ weeks to respond. There are always circumstances where people initially accept and reject for various reasons, maybe financial, emergency, better school, etc. - that's why there are waiting lists just in case people reject initially or later. @MelissaJoellen I would recommend going with the program you won't regret. I too decided on a different program in state that was cheaper and still an amazing school - UW. For me personally, the cost outweighed all the other things duke had to offer me that UW didn't, such as study abroad opportunities and really close relationships with clinical instructors. However when that financial aid report came in, I couldn't justify to myself spending 80k on only the first three semesters.. and still a 20k left for the last semester in fall - I had to loan out completely. If you are in a very comfortable financial situation however, and money isn't an issue, if you are only looking at the programs, go with the one you love and wont' regret choosing. I guess ask yourself, what are you looking for in a program? Can you get the experience you want out of UCF? hopefully my input helped haha. Other students from duke have stated they love the program and it was worth the cost. Others have stated to go to a cheaper program due to debt. I guess it's all about your preference =) Best wishes in your decision - either way you will be a great nurse!
