Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2020

World Canada CA Programs

Updated:   Published

Hey, I used to creep these forums for the past few years and they helped affirm my decision to apply to nursing school for Fall 2020. I didn't see one started for next year so I thought, why not start one?

I graduated a while back so I'm a bit older, but my top three choices are:

1. Queen's

2. McMaster

3. York

4. Humber-UNB

Hi all!

When applying to the McMaster program, the deadline is February 1st as stated on their website and the next steps just says complete CASPer test (not by a specific date) however I got a CASPer test date for February 11th. Is this an issue?

Hey!

As far as I know this isn't a problem. It takes about 3 weeks after doing the test for the school to receive your test results. Admissions don't usually come out for a while after the document deadline (Feb 1), so it isn't a problem.

How does one book a date for Casper? Do I have to go the website set up an account and select a date? Or does the school set a date for the student? Please help!

Hi!

So what I understood and what I did was that yes you sign up and chose and date and then from there it asks for your OUAC number and that's how it links your results to your application!!:)

Hi all!

I’m not applying this year but was doing this process last year! I’m currently at UofT for their nursing program so I’d love to give back and help answer any questions you may have. I know applications made me anxious but looking at this forum and past years helped a lot! So definitely check on the past few years of forums, helps a ton.

I applied to UofT, McMaster, and Western as well as UBC out west and got into them all so I can answer any application questions for those as well.

Good luck ?

Hi! congrats on receiving acceptance to all your choices! I am applying to McMaster and I was just wondering if you had any advice for the application process (specifically the steps after the OUAC application)? I am having a hard time with the prerequisites aspect as I have taken several classes that can count as the prerequisites yet they're not all listed on the equivalent courses page I have also taken classes that are on the page but I am just wondering if I should include those classes on the prerequisite form that I have to email in or no? The main reason I am considering including those courses is I have higher grades in them. Sorry if it is kind of confusing, thanks in advance!

For anyone who is applying to U of T:

Are we supposed to list our ECs and research experience in simply a list format? Should we be including descriptions below each point?

Feeling anxious about making sure I do everything right ?

I don’t think there is a right format! I listed a few things that are relevant to nursing and included descriptions of how it helped me become a better nurse etc

Hey again,

Does anyone know if the questions on the Queen's Personal Statement have a word limit? I didn't see anything about this on the PSE form itself.

Thanks!!

Hey guys,

Applying to McMaster (accelerated) extremely last minute (yes, I know my fault and I take the full blame).

Anyways so it's January 31st right now and the deadline is Feb.1. McMaster's website specifically says: "Apply online at the Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC) using Form 105D no later than February 1."

My question is: Does the Feb. 1 deadline also include the time it takes for OUAC to process the application and receive the transcripts? Or as long as I have submitted the OUAC form by February 1 I should be fine?

My guess is that I should be fine. Because I know the way OUAC works is once the deadline has passed they don't allow you to submit the application. So the fact I was able to submit the application and make the payment means I should be fine? Also, I applied to Queens' program and their deadline was January 15th. But they sent me an email saying "Thanks for applying, we've received your application" on January 21st, with no indication of me being late.

Hello everyone,

Did anyone recieve an acceptance to Humber College's 2nd entry program yet? I know last year they sent acceptances around this time. Can you also state your GPA and your volunteer experiences please.

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could offer me some insight as I am anxious about my supplementary for U of T. I realized I submitted it without writing down how long I have been doing each of my volunteer positions. I just described them without mentioning the time span ? I don't know how I missed that, and U of Ts application doesn't let you see a copy of what you submitted. I don't remember them asking for dates/time span like UBC did, so I forgot to put it down.

Do you think this means I really messed up my supplementary now as they have no dates? It just sucks because I have been volunteering for years and had a really strong background...

Hey there,

I received mine at like 1am in the morning haha. I believe I applied with a 3.98/4.3 scale. As for volunteer experience I’ve volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House, a local seniors community club. However I’m currently in radiological technology at Dalhousie so I have 2 years of clinical experience, and I just worked as a live in nanny in Sydney Australia for a 2 year old girl with cystic fibrosis along with many other complications. So as her nanny I was doing all of her medical treatments making sure she kept healthy.

cheers ,

Hannah

Hi Guys and Gals,

I’ve been creeping these forms for months. I ended up applying to 5 schools, Queens, Humber, Dalhousie, Western and UBC. I already received a wait list notification for Dalhousie. I didn’t make the first set of rounds in January so the next one is in March. This morning I got an acceptance to Humber! My cGPA is a 3.89/4.3, last 30 credits is a 4.06/4.3 and my last 60 is a 3.98/4.3.

As for volunteer/experience, I’m currently a radiological technology student at Dalhousie University, I pretty much had to sell my soul to get into that one ?. However after 2 years of clinical I was already more interested in what the nurses were doing. The kicker is I got accepted into Dalhousie accelerated nursing and rad tech but was discouraged from nursing by my friends in nursing and chose the latter. So here I am again applying for more schools. I have volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House, and a local seniors club for many years. I’m currently in Sydney, Australia and here I worked as a live in Nanny for a 2 year old girl with cystic fibrosis with many other complications. I was doing all of her treatments to ensure she stayed healthy. Honestly this is what prompted me to go through with applying. I was so invested in caring for her and I knew if I continued in rad tech I wouldn’t be able to provide that type of care again.

Hopefully I meet some of my future classmates on this forum!

Hannah
