Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2020

World Canada CA Programs

Updated:   Published

Hey, I used to creep these forums for the past few years and they helped affirm my decision to apply to nursing school for Fall 2020. I didn't see one started for next year so I thought, why not start one?

I graduated a while back so I'm a bit older, but my top three choices are:

1. Queen's

2. McMaster

3. York

4. Humber-UNB

Specializes in Clinical Research.

Is anyone writing the CASPER on January 14th?

I need it for McMaster and York and the fact that this is the only part of my application that they're looking at outside of my GPA is kind of freaking me out lol

I'm also writing on January 14th! Super nervous, but plan on taking a few days just focussing on preparing for it this weekend.

Hello everyone!

So happy someone started this threat ?

I graduated from U of T in 2018 with a BSc in Immunology and am currently finishing a Clinical Research post-grad at Humber. I've applied to U of T, Western, Queens and Nipissing SPP.

I have a pretty solid academic record (cGPA 3.86, last two years 4.0) but am quite worried about my sub-par ECs. I have a very extensive research background with some publications and conference abstracts, and am still volunteering in the lab from my undergrad...but that is all I have. Is anyone else in a similar situation?

Wishing you all the best in this process and am excited to share our experiences.

Hi all!

I’m not applying this year but was doing this process last year! I’m currently at UofT for their nursing program so I’d love to give back and help answer any questions you may have. I know applications made me anxious but looking at this forum and past years helped a lot! So definitely check on the past few years of forums, helps a ton.

I applied to UofT, McMaster, and Western as well as UBC out west and got into them all so I can answer any application questions for those as well.

Good luck ?

Hi! Thank you so much for helping out. Belated congratulations on your acceptances and I hope you're doing well this year!

I'm definitely an anxious wreck right now, really want to get in for this upcoming fall term. Do you have any advice for UofT's personal statement? I've written a few rough drafts and they all sound very ehhh to me.

For folks applying to Queen's: Does your to-do list say completed? All of my things still say initiated, so I'm a little worried about the upcoming deadlines on February 1st ?

Sorry for the late reply! I forgot to check this over the holidays. I highly recommend looking through the last few years of forums. I recall taking one person’s advice about taking experiences and really applying my experience of how that would pertain to being a good nurse (though this may have been on a ubc allnurses forum). To be honest i pretty much just copied my app from ubc since that was my top choice haha (I got into ubc but changed my mind about which school to go to). Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Edit: oh geez, sorry you asked about your personal statement. Hm i would have to look at mine because i don’t remember what i wrote! I think i just wrote why nursing was right for me and how i came to the decision of choosing nursing (lots of opportunities to change positions, can help way more people at one time through public heath etc). I think i also wrote some pesonal stuff about what motivates me to help others on a specific issue (diabetes/other non-comm chronic diseases due to my fam being impacted by them etc).

Specializes in Biomedical Sciences/Psychology.

Hello beautiful people on this feed. I would like to start with the best of luck in getting in this September intake!

I am a 4th year University of Waterloo students wrapping up my degree in Biomedical Sciences interested in pursuing my path in nursing. However, I am a bit afraid that I won't make the cut off since my cumulative average is not deemed to be competitive (according to my cumulative average calculation based on the last 2 years taken, it turned out to be 78.8%).

I have applied to the following colleges with regular stream: Humber, Seneca, and Co-Mc collaborative nursing

Soon I will be applying to 5 institutions with the second entry nursing: Humber-UNB, McMaster,Toronto, Trent, and Queens.

Hey guys! Just wanted to say good luck to everyone applying this cycle!

My first and only choice is UofT nursing. I have a final year GPA of 4.00. Taking UofT's online human physiology course to obtain a missing full year credit in physiology. I've heard of some people receiving conditional acceptances sometime around April if they were still completing the course so I'm banking on that lol.

ECs: 2 years of research experience, educational outreach, varsity athlete (football and ultimate frisbee), GlycoNet research grant recipient, daycare volunteer experience, science fair judge, and advanced biochemistry tutor for university students.

No worries, I appreciate your help regardless! I realize my statements sound more like cover letters as they weren't very "personal." I'm still trying to answer core questions like "why nursing" and what I can bring to the program without straying far from addressing the actual questions. Tricky to do so in two 250 word essays, but I'll hopefully get there! Revising bit by bit now.

Could I ask what made you choose UofT over UBC? I'll only be applying to UofT, Nipissing, and McMaster, but UofT is my top choice for sure.

Hi! How are you liking the program so far? Would you say that doing nursing related research projects is doable in first year? I've read a little bit about their Summer Research program (very interested), but I heard not a lot of people get involved--why do you think so? Is it very competitive?

As for the application process--what do you think made you stand out from the pool of applicants? Do you have any advice as to how to be very personal in the supplementary apps without sounding cliched?

I apologize for bombarding you with questions, but I'm very excited to be applying and really hoping I get in, hah.

Hi everyone!

I applied to UNB/Humber and York's second entry program.

I'm a fifth-year biology major student with a minor in psychology at York. My GPA for the last 60 credits is ~ 3.3-3.4

Good luck to everyone in the application process!
