Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2020

World Canada CA Programs

Updated:   Published

Hey, I used to creep these forums for the past few years and they helped affirm my decision to apply to nursing school for Fall 2020. I didn't see one started for next year so I thought, why not start one?

I graduated a while back so I'm a bit older, but my top three choices are:

1. Queen's

2. McMaster

3. York

4. Humber-UNB

Congratulations on your acceptance! I am an accelerated student at mac and heres some things I think might help you out a bit:

I would brush up on A&P for these specific areas:

Cardiovascular system -> will give you a strong basis for learning about heart failure and acute coronary syndrome in patho

Immune system -> for basis on stress, inflammation, and adaptive immune disorders (e.g. review the immune cells)

Endocrine -> know your hormones and feedback systems that way it will make it easier to understand disorders of the endocrine system (e.g. diabetes**, but also for Cushing syndrome, etc)

Also fluids and electrolytes!

A strong understanding in these areas will help you a lot with patho ?

You could also begin memorizing normal ranges for vital signs and if you really want to be impressive, normal ranges for lab values! But definitely not required.

Good luck! ?

This was so helpful! Thanks for going into so much detail for me, I really appreciate it!!

Hey! I'm in the Mac accelerated program too! I wonder if we know each other ?. Hello whoever you are!

But ya @jupitersea I can vouch for what this person is saying. I would also suggest that as soon at they allow you buy the custom courseware for PBL (you'll know what that means when the syllabus gets posted) I strongly recommend you get a head start on readings because for that class you MUST do the readings since that's what the tests are based on. And the readings can be a lot so start them early if possible.

And then if you want, just like look up Youtube videos for how to perform physical assessments for cardio, respiratory, abdominal, MSK, neuro, and mental status for nursing. That's what your entire first semester is based on.

First semester and second semester is chill imo. I'm currently in the third semester of the program and it's a lot... so enjoy those first 2 semesters hehe.

Ahh I’m most likely going to Queens, so probably won’t be needing the PBL courseware - but thank you for the heads up that sounds like a lot of reading. I’m sure someone else on this forum that’s going to Mac will appreciate the advice!! I will definitely look into some Youtube videos for those assessments though, thank you!

Good luck with your third semester, I hope everything goes well and you find some time to enjoy it too ?

Hello!

I am current applicant for fall 2021, and I'm currently deciding between York and Western's 2nd Entry nursing programs. U of T is my first choice but I'm still waiting to hear back!

I'm wondering if any of you could give me insights on both the Western and York compressed nursing programs and what your thoughts are now that you've completed one year. Specifically, I'm wondering about how their placements were handled during the pandemic; did they go virtual? Did you still complete all your placements?

I'm also interested in global nursing so if any of you know any specific information on each schools global nursing opportunities that would be much appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

Hi everyone - any chance a current Nipissing SPP student is willing to chat with me about the program? Send me a message ? I would really appreciate it!

Hi all!

I’m not applying this year but was doing this process last year! I’m currently at UofT for their nursing program so I’d love to give back and help answer any questions you may have. I know applications made me anxious but looking at this forum and past years helped a lot! So definitely check on the past few years of forums, helps a ton.

I applied to UofT, McMaster, and Western as well as UBC out west and got into them all so I can answer any application questions for those as well.

Good luck ?

Hi! Can you send me an email on [email protected] I am applying to both mcmaster and uoft and would love your help!!
