Hey, I used to creep these forums for the past few years and they helped affirm my decision to apply to nursing school for Fall 2020. I didn't see one started for next year so I thought, why not start one?
I graduated a while back so I'm a bit older, but my top three choices are:
1. Queen's
2. McMaster
3. York
4. Humber-UNB
@Nursetobe2022 I highly recommend taking A&P at York University (IHST 1001 and 1002). It runs from Sept - Apr and the prof that teaches it was so amazing! I was dreading A&P but it ended up being my fav class :)
Hey guys,
I eventually want to do the Nurse Practitioner program after the accelerated nursing program. However, I just found out that most schools are pass/fail. I'm not sure how many courses are pass fail in each program, actually. But how would Nurse Practitioner programs look at this? Or how would they calculate my GPA then?
I would suggest writing your program specifically if you are concerned but I asked the program director of mine (SPP Nipissing) and she said that it wouldn't be a problem to pursue graduate studies afterwards and that several students have done it before with no issues. Not sure about your question about GPA though.

I was wondering if anyone that applied to Nipissing SPP included more than one reference letter?
Wishing everyone best of luck in their nursing journey!
Hi! Thank you! When I applied to SPP I only had one reference from my professor who is also department head. I believed it was in hard copy and I mailed everything to North bay!
Just one ? I got a reference letter from a physician that I worked with.
Feel free to message me anytime.. Love to help!
For general science credits (such as for U of T or McMaster), does anyone know if they weigh the actual course at all or they only care if it's a science course for prerequisite purposes? For instance, using an Intro Biology course vs Nutrition or Microbio, would they prefer Microbio, or would using Intro Bio serve the same purpose and have the same weight?

Hey! I can’t speak for Mac but for UofT, I was admitted with putting a general Health Sci course and a Kin course for my two science prereqs. So I don’t believe they have much preference but obviously IDK! Hope this kinda helped.

Possibly! I feel very strongly about the rest of my coursework but am nervous about putting just Intro Bio and a Psych Course for my science prereqs. Especially because only A&P I/II and Intro Bio would be my "life sciences" courses, I'm nervous they'll mark me down for not having enough breath or depth in the life sciences.
Also related but unrelated: do these schools have much merit aid and/or do people find themselves getting generous scholarships? Cost is definitely a factor, especially as a prospective international student.
Hi guys! When do you think I should apply to accelerated nursing programs? I know the deadline is februrary for most schools, but do any of these schools (Western, U of T, York, Queens) accept on a rolling basis? I am basically taking BIOL 230 with Athabasca right now but will not finished until end of Janurary so I want my marks in for that before I apply.

Hey, I applied to compressed nursing programs for Western,York and Trent around the end of January. From my knowledge, most of these accelerated programs start in the fall semester only. These programs accept according to GPA and Casper test results. I hope this answers your question, feel free to reply.
PS: I applied to these program in January 2020 to be accepted into the fall 2020 semester

Please guys I need suggestionS on where to take prerequisites. I only applied to Humber this year, still waitlisted though, but trying to prepare for worst case scenario which would be to apply next year. I hope to start taking prerequisite courses so I can apply to more schools if I need to. I got my first degree over 10 years ago(I did Microbiology and statistics, humanities and philosophy then) but I guess it’s too old so I have to retake all required prerequisites. Kindly give your suggestions.
