SPC Spring 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I've been active on a different thread for people who applied to St. Petersburg College's Nursing program starting in August 2018. I made it on the alternate list (still completing Microbiology-finals tomorrow!), but have decided, with the help of an HEC advisor, not to accept if I get offered a last minute seat based on the fact that my only options for clinicals will be whatever no one else wanted. She said I'll definitely be accepted for January and will have top choice of clinicals/instructors, so I'm happy waiting another four months to start. Who else is applying for the Spring 2019 program?

Hi. Question: do you know if there is a scenario in which you can start the LPN bridge program in the Spring and then go for summer and then graduate in Fall? vs. start in summer, go fall and graduate in spring?

Looks like once you start in Spring you have to sit out Summer.

Yes I'm in the same boat! I'm finishing up Mirco and Stats this fall! And I would not look into Galen unless you couldn't get into anywhere else, it is a very difficult school and very fast paced. I had a friend go that route with her A game and she still couldn't keep up so she had to drop out. I would apply to as many nursing schools as I can before going to Galen.

I'd avoid ANY private school, if you can. They exist for profit, not so much good education, and once they have your money it's easy to find ways to attrition you out. They will, of course, have a great sales pitch that tries to make you forget this.

I have coworkers doing an LPN-RN bridge at a local private school. It's more than 4 the cost of SPC. Not good.

So you're applying for spring without micro AND stats complete? If you have a 4.0 GPA, that would give you 63/70 points, the equivalent of applying with a 3.3 GPA and all pre-reqs done. Still very possibly for a spring acceptance! :) Good luck-hopefully we'll be starting together come January! 🤞🏼

Hello everyone, I just joined the website to post on this thread. I've also applied for the SPC spring nursing program. I have all the prereqs completed with a 3.7 GPA. I got Bs in ethics, speech, and micro lecture. I'm finishing up my AA in economics while waiting to find out about this admission period. Good luck to everyone, and congrats on the 4.0's!

Hey, y'all. I'm also an applicant for spring '19. Assuming that I understand how things are calculated, I'm applying with all my prereqs done and a 3.8; I'm a little confused as to whether the class that fulfills my "world view requirement" is included in the calculation if another, more recent and higher grade is available to fulfill the humanities criterion. If it's the less generous option, it's a 3.7.

I failed to get in in spring 2018 while I was still completing micro, and didn't reapply until this upcoming term so I could better prepare myself financially.

I'm sure some of you were also present at the seminar today. It did a lot to ease my anxieties about being accepted, but I doubt I'll be completely chill about it until I'm sitting at the orientation. Looking forward to celebrating about acceptance emails with you guys in about a month!

Hi I was also at the seminar today, for the second time because I applied for fall while I was still completing Micro. The worldview requirement isn't even on the spreadsheet they showed us today so you're looking at 68 points. Dawn all but said that's guaranteed admission. I can tell you I ended up getting a last minute alternate spot for fall (which I declined) with only 66 points. According to the stats they showed us, there was only one spring program in the last ten years where the lowest accepted GPA was higher than 3.5 (it was 3.7 in 2013). I would be pretty chill about it in your position. See you in January!

Hello everyone, I too applied for the spring program and I unfortunately was unable to make it to the seminar last week. I saw on this post that you guys were talking about a point system out of 70 points, and I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what my score would be? I have a 3.8 gpa with a B in stats and a B in psych. I also wanted to know roughly what my odds are of being accepted into the program, I am very worried and I can't stop counting down the days till November! Thank you very much for your help.

Assuming that you've completed all 30 credits, you'd be at a 68 out of 70 possible points (the same as me!). One of the speakers indicated that 3.8+ was get your ducks in a row territory, because you're very likely to be selected.

Start lining up those ducks...you're on your way to an acceptance letter! Not once in the last ten years has someone with a 3.8 GPA NOT gotten in for spring!
