I've been active on a different thread for people who applied to St. Petersburg College's Nursing program starting in August 2018. I made it on the alternate list (still completing Microbiology-finals tomorrow!), but have decided, with the help of an HEC advisor, not to accept if I get offered a last minute seat based on the fact that my only options for clinicals will be whatever no one else wanted. She said I'll definitely be accepted for January and will have top choice of clinicals/instructors, so I'm happy waiting another four months to start. Who else is applying for the Spring 2019 program?
I was wondering who all went to the seminar last week. I attended it as well and feel better after hearing everything they had to say. I'm at a 3.6 GPA without micro done and I'm hoping to get in for spring start. Is it November 1st yet??? lol...Good luck to everyone!!
I went to the seminar too. Applying without micro and with a 3.6 GPA puts you at 62 points (26 for credit hours and 36 for GPA points). (Assuming you also need micro lab, which is only 1 credit hour) That's equivalent to having micro done and a 3.2 GPA. (But wait-i thought you had a 4.0. When you said 3.6 do you mean you're applying with the equivalent points of someone with a 3.6? because then I'd say you're definitely getting in!) anyway, if you do actually have a true 3.6, I can't remember if the stats for lowest accepted GPA went down to 62 pts in the last ten years. I thought it was around 3.3 or 3.4,(63 or 64 pts) but I did notice that it's been on a downward trend for the last few years so there's definitely a chance. I barely made it in as a last minute fall alternate without micro and I had a 4.0 (I declined due to finances and applied again for spring) But spring is historically less competitive so I feel like you'll probably be good. Good luck!!!

I applied for spring '18 while still taking micro with lab. I don't recall my exact GPA, but it was in the ballpark of 3.65. I didn't make the alternates list. Spring' 18 was missing from the acceptance stats on the PowerPoint they used during the applicant seminar, but my application was equivalent to applying with a ~3.25 with all my credits done, so the result wasn't exactly a surprise.
If you're just using your equivalent GPA with a 4.0, though, I'd say you have pretty good odds for spring.
Hey Alexis,Yep, I am in the same boat you were in last semester. I have a 4.0 gpa, but I am applying without micro and lab done...so that puts me at a 3.6 gpa after all points are calculated. I'm super excited...I hope to get in and start with all of you in the spring :-)
Well in that case I feel you've got nothing to worry about! Heck yeah-see you on Nov 15th for orientation!
Fingers crossed! I hope so. So, when you ended up getting accepted for fall, were you offered day or night classes? Or did you have a choice? Were you able to choose clinical sites or were they assigned? Just wondering how that goes.
So basically I got a letter of intent, which included a list of clinical sites (a very SHORT list of clinical sites because most of them had been filled already) and about half were days and half were evenings, so you select day or evening by which clinical sites you choose. That was a good part of why I declined acceptance. I really didn't feel like driving to Clearwater twice a week and I certainly didn't want to go to Menorah Manner (as a CNA I've heard some pretty terrible things). Tammy advised me that people were assigned their clinical site preferences in order of their standings in the list of accepted people, and pointed out that if I reapply for spring after competing micro and still with the 4.0, I would be very likely to get my first choice. Finances were another reason I declined. When financial aid came around last month I put aside the right amount for supplies and immunizations so I'll be ready in January
I see...okay, thanks for explaining how it works, I appreciate it! I'm in Clearwater so sites here would work for me, but I also don't mind driving. Yeah the immunizations were estimated at $1,000! I was like whoa better put aside some money for all the extras that aren't covered by financial aid.
