I've taken a lot of classes online, but Id never have the courage to take something so intense as chemistry online! Best of luck to you!

I know that online classes are convenient, but have you thought about local community colleges' night/weekend classes? They can be a very good option if scheduling is a factor.

I couldn't get into community colleges for my pre-reqs where I lived (too crowded, no spaces in class) in time to meet requirements to start school this fall in the program I'd already been admitted to... so I moved 9 mos. early, paid out of state tuition, and when online classes weren't available I took classes after work until 11pm. I'm only telling you this to tell you that you are SO CLOSE! You will find a way!

You may try posting in your state's forum to see if anyone knows of another school in your area that might offer it. Often you have to come to campus for labs, but many schools offer the classroom portion online.

Also check out our Distance Learning/Independent Study Forum. Someone is likely to be able to point you in the right direction there. Good luck to you.

UC Berkley has both gen. and org. chem online. I'm in Southern CA, but was thinking about taking a class online through them, only thing is they're costly, 700 I think, depending how may credits. You can be in any state. You take it at your own pace as long as you're done in six mos. I have to take chem at the community college because of the lab, I don't think theirs offers a lab, even though some of their classes do.

I took an intro to chemistry class with lab at ccconline. You can check out their website at http://www.ccconline.org. They are a group of Colorado Community Colleges that offer courses online. (I also took Pharmacology Calculations course with them as well. Great class). Although they are expensive. I learned a great deal.

I'm taking courses at Edukan now. They are a group of community colleges in Kansas. I haven't taken chemistry with them, but I know they offer it. Try http://www.edukan.org They are MUCH cheaper than ccconline. (I think a 4 credit course is $460).

Good luck.

I gotta put my .02 in and advise you not to take Chemistry online. I tried that a couple of years ago and it was a really bad experience so I'm taking it again this Fall in person. In my online Chemistry class I had a really terrible professor who just said read the book and I'll see you at the final. I'll never forget feeling so lost. At first I thought maybe I'm just not good at "online" courses, but I ended up doing very well in an online English class the next semester. I think because Chemistry is really intense and has lab work - it's best taken on campus.

Good luck to you in whatever you choose to do!

I'm just beginning my online Chem course through Rio Salado. The course looks very well put together, but the labs are scaring me I have to admit. I can tell I'll be communicating a lot with the instructor because the instructions aren't clear; I have NO IDEA how I'm supposed to prepare these lab reports.

Anyway, the course is four credits, with labs which can be done all at home (other option is to do part home lab, part school lab three select Saturdays during the course).

Tuition for out of state is $159 per credit hour, plus a $50 lab fee, plus $15 admin fee. So for $701 plus the cost of books. Yikes! That is rather high. Check with your local schools or with Edukan, CCC and compare costs/availability.

Good Luck!

As nervous as I am about taking online classes, especially science w/lab classes online, I might take this also. The instructor at our school is a real jerk. He used to teach math and if something isnt done just like he thinks it should be done, it is wrong, even if the answer is right.

If I dont get into nursing school this Spring, I will most likely start taking pre-requistes for the BSN. That way, after I do get in, it will be so much more tempting to go all the way. I hope to have less than 4-5 classes to take between RN and BSN.

I can't say enough good things about Prof Klepper at www.Iowacconline.org

The class was fantastic, and even though it was not required, I went on to take the 2nd half -- organic and biochem. The labs were half hands on with household products and half virtual with a computer program. You learn what you need to know and Dr. Klepper is very helpful and is well suited to online teaching. Hope this helps.

I believe he is the same teacher I had for my ccconline course a year ago. If we are talking about the same Prof, your right, he is great. I learned a great deal from him.

Thanks everyone for your input. The main reason I am looking on line is the community college that is in my area offers only one chemisty instructor she has about a 50% failure rate I dropped last semester at mid-term. because I had a already full load.

This instructor has a really hard time bringing things down to the intro level,

she told one student " you are going to understand this It is chemistry just do it ".

So hopefully I will find something online

thanks everyone

They will let you take these courses even if you are not from there? That is wonderful! I have been looking for a school that isn't expensive but will let me take all of my prereqs online. I work full time and I really can't afford to let school interfer with my job. I would like to take two classes at a time so that I won't get overloaded and give up. I learn so much from this website.
