I will be moving this summer, and I am finishing up my pre-reqs for nursing school. I alreay have my Bachelor of Business Administration, but I've always wanted to be a nurse. I am currently living in Jackson, MS, but will be moving to Ocean Springs, MS (the coast) this summer. I don't want this to slow my school down in away way. I am all set to sign up for some on-line courses, but I need some help choosing the right ones to take. Also, I wanted to know if you ever have to actually go to the classroom for an on-line course because right now I live 2.5 hours away from the school I will be going to, and I'm working a full time job. I am also a single mother of a 2 year old, so I am sort of lost right now. Please help with any suggestions.

Depending on what courses you need to take, you have many options.
Check your local community college and see what sort of DL classes they offer. Depending on the course and school you may have to go to campus to have an exam procotered.
Another great option is EduKan or ccc.online.
They offer a great selection of science and general courses.
You do everything online. Don't be fooled though, just because it is online you work very hard and there is usually quite a bit of material that you are expected to cover.
It sounds like with your situation, you will do fine. Just make sure you are motivated and can teach yourself things.
Check the DL forum. There is quite a bit of info there on online classes.
Best of luck to you.
thanks for your advice. i am very motivated to do this, so i don't think it will be a problem. i just don't want to stop my process, and then get un-motivated. i will check out these web-sites as well.

I live in Ocean Springs also. Are you going to attend MGCCC JD or Jackson County campus? I took online classes this semester till I got into the nursing program and I only had to go to the school for registration and one time for proctor test. I can tell you what classes are needed to get into MGCCC if that is where you are going. Let me know if you need any help.

I did a political science on-line class.....I thought it was going to be a "fluff class" That was one of my more challenging classes. I never saw the teacher, but I had to work my butt off. I was like 1 or 2 points from an A, and do you think that heffa would give me a tiny bit of extra credit to put me over to an A:angryfire ? She sent me a kurt to the point e-mail, "I don't play extra credit".

I've never had to report to the campus for an online course. But I think it depends on the course, best to know this before you sign up for an individual course. For the most part you can do all your work online without going to the campus.
Good luck to you!
emsjunkie2001: i am going to be attending the jackson county campus. which campus are you going to? are you already in nursing school or are you taking your pre-req's.
I appreciate everyone's advice. It helps a lot to be able to ask people who have been through the same type of situation. Thanks so much.:thankya:

I'm taking abnormal psych this quarter online through my local CC and have to take the exams at the testing center on campus. Luckily I only live 10 minutes away so it's not an issue for me.

I take most of my classes online. The only time people have to attend campus is if they are taking a science or speech class.

I have been taking my pre-reqs and a local private university, the last one I need is micro and the only time they have it over the summer is on the nites I work. So I have to take it online. But we do have to go to lab 3 times during a 6 week period. I do know a nurse took A&P 1 and 2 online. Even the labs and quizzes. She loved it so I hope I can do this. I do have a friend I made in A&P and she will be going to the same nursing school in the fall, she too has to take it online. I am hoping that if we are having a hard time with online we can help eachother.
Good luck

I love online courses. I think they are a great way for busy but organized people to earn credit quickly.
If you search hard enough you can find ANY class online including speech (using video tape) and science (using lab kits).
I personally believe online colleges will be the wave of the future. Independente learners responsible for their own education.
