  1. i am completely feeling your pain (and anxiety) right now. i started school this past week, and have now been to 3 college algebra classes (mwf). it is like i have a mental block or something against college algebra. for my 1st bachelor's degree i had to take college algebra...made a d, that's why i'm re-taking it, but i took finite math, business calculus, statistics, financial & managerial accounting & none of these courses have given me as much trouble as college algebra. i dread going to this class period. i can't stand working something over & over, but never actually getting it. but if it kills me this semester, i am going to make an "a". i have decided that in my mind......i will not let this course run my over like it has before, & right now at the moment. for the past 3 hours, honestly, i have been working on 2 problems. that's it. but i also don't have a very good teacher so i am going to get a tutor that's offered at my school. i think one on one will be much better. this is not to discourage you, the other people who have replied to this post are absolutely right, and i have added everyone of the websites recommended to my favorites. they really do help, along with the wonderful support system we have here in this nursing community. best of luck to you, and please keep us updated. i will keep you posted as well.:balloons: we can do this!!!!!!!!!!
  2. I started school today...still working on my pre-reqs. Hopefully they will be completed next spring, and I can apply for the ADN program that starts next fall.:w00t: Classes weren't bad today at all. That's always a good start for me, but who knows what the weeks ahead will bring. I must stay positive.....(and study). Good luck to everyone going to school this semester, whenever you start.:balloons: We can all do it because we have this site. I don't think I could make it without you guys that I don't even know.
  3. Thanks, I'm going to apply to both programs, and pray I get accepted into one of them. It doesn't matter to me which one because MGCCC has a bridge program with USM to go straight into their program after you complete your ADN program along with the core-reqs.
  4. He TelegirlRN, how was the program at the JC campus? Was it very hard to get into, and was there a long waiting list? I'm sure there is because we started our fall classes today, and you know you go through that whole spill of introducing yourself & your major. Just about every girl in all 3 classes I had today were nursing major's. I am currently taking my pre & core-reqs at the same time. I hope to be applying next semester for the fall ADN program. I am also going to apply at USM to better my chances. I hope to see you on campus next semester. Let me know what classes you will be taking & good luck. Congrats on the graduation.:balloons: I can't wait for that opportunity.
  5. Congrats on that one:balloons: Do you know what the cut-off GPA is, and is there a long waiting list? Sorry for so many questions. I'm just excited & nervous all at the same time. I think it's that way with everyone.
  6. Thanks anyway cynt77, was it very hard to get into USM's nursing program? I am going to apply at both, and just see which one I can get into sooner.
  7. Hey! Do you know how hard it is to get into the ADN program at MGCCC? I was wondering what the cut-off is for the GPA requirements. Also, when do you apply? I already have a Bachelor's degree, so I have most of my pre-reqs out of the way. I'm just basically taking my math & science courses because my degree was in Marketing......not a lot of math or science required for that degree. I will complete my pre-reqs next semester, with most of my core-reqs completed as well. I will take A&P I next semester, and then A&P II next summer. So will I be able to apply in the spring for the fall deadline? Any information you can provide will be very helpful to me. Thanks!!!
  8. I'm taking my pre-reqs at MGCCC/JC campus. I am also looking into the bridge program to get my BSN from USM. I already have a BBA, so I'm hoping this will help me as long as I can pull my GPA up in my core science courses. What campus are you attendin for your pre-reqs, or have you already completed them?
  9. I'm taking my pre-reqs at the JC campus this fall. I won't be transferring to USA though. I already have a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, so I am going to try and get into the bridge program with USM-gulf coast. I am also taking College Algebra this semester....... I really hate that class. When are you taking it? We might be in the same class. I'm taking 4 other classes, and 1 is on-line. I couldn't see myself sitting through World Lit for an entire semester. Good luck to you!:balloons:
  10. I quit my job this summer as well, and I was scared to death about it. I have a 2 year old son, but with the support of my wonderful fiance' I am able to go to school full time without the strain of a job & school. In the long run, I know it will be the best thing for me because I know I will make better grades. Plus, I will have more time to study and spend with my son.
  11. I LOVE buying new school supplies!!! I use the spiral notebooks in class, and when I get home, I organized everything into a binder with dividers. I am very picky about my notes, paperwork, worksheets given out. I am a Virgo.....perfectionist in every since of the word. I re-write my notes (more legibally), and this also helps me study. I use a different color tab for every course I'm taking. I also use different highlighters for different things. For homework assignments I use one highlighter, for test material I use a different color highlighter, etc. I love using the roller ball gel pens. I am very anal about the pens I write with. Something in my head tells me I can only write with certain types of pens. For any math classes I use mechanical pencils. I keep a 3 hole punch with me for any hand-outs that are given to us. I PROBABLY ORGANIZE A LITTLE TOO MUCH!!! But this always helps me. I can't stand not being able to find something when I need it. Anyway, good luck to everyone this fall semester!!!:balloons:
  12. This will help me tremendously!!! Thanks for the great idea. I probably wouldn't have thought of this, but REALLY need to be this organized.
  13. I'm taking Bio w/ lab, marriage & family, college algebra , world history, and speech:chair: . It should be interesting. I graduated with a BBA in 02'. Haven't been in a classroom in a long time. Hopefully it will come back to me pretty easily. Good luck to all!!!
  14. Thanks to all of you who have posted your advice and experiences with this horrible class. My nerves are easing up a little just knowing that I have a huge support group here. That always makes me feel more comfortable. And I know in my heart that I can make it threw this class, I just have to do it. All of your advice will be very beneficial this semester. I will read these thread countless times before going to class or giving a speech!!!
  15. Thanks, I am looking for some sort of support group right now, along with a therapist. I want to start seeing someone before I start school in case they do put me on some sort of meds that don't "agree" with me. I've had that happen and it wasn't pretty......you can only imagine. I don't disclose my illness to anyone that I go to school with, or even associate every once in a while. I have learned the hard way on that. It will always come back to haunt you in the long run, or someone will easily blaime you for everything because you are an "easy target". That's just been my experience so I keep it to myself as much as possible. I want people to learn who "I" am before they see my illness come out, if it does!!! Thanks for the advice. I can always find comfort in knowing that I am not the only one.
