I have been so bummed ... I am 42 and have always had perfect vision until this last week or so .
I have been studying for my placement tests to start my Journey back to college. I noticed things were a little fuzzy and a headache. After researching at the google dr clinic, the suggestion and explanation I came up with was
the 1.25 strength "Readers". I got a cute pair at the bookstore.
Text is clear and no need for the bc powders.
Anyone Else ???

I have/had horrible vision. Severe astigmatism. Passed it on to my poor kids. I couldn't even wear contacts, my eyes were to badly shaped that it wouldn't work and that was after trying 4 different trial pairs.
I just had Lasik I had to get a different kind that has longer healing. Although it's been slow going my upclose vision was been amazing. There will still be a change I need reading glasses as I get older associated with normal aging but I don't think it will be anytime soon. It's so bizarre to wear glasses for 20+ years and no longer need them.

no need to worry. about 90% of the population needs to have readers when they reach 40. This is due to the muscle weakening in the eye that allows for accommodation. Chances are, you needed an Rx when you hit 40, but only now is it bugging you enough. I would recommend seeing your optometrist for a real rx as most people do not have the same rx for each eye. If you have not been in awhile, definitely get checked for glaucoma.
I currently work in the optometric industry, and it is so amusing when people come in and say "I don't need glasses", then upon further inquiry their eyes are so bad legally the cannot drive haha.
Bottom line, don't feel bad, it happens to everyone around your age!

Don't need reading glasses, but I've been nearsighted since about the 3rd grade. Wear contacts usually and glasses around the house.

I have always had perfect vision, I'm 25. After my first semester of nsg school I realized that the board was looking blurry...I went to the eye dr and explained I had never needed glasses before she said it was because my eyes were having to strain so much in class then going home and reading a lot real close. So here's tooo glasses!!

I do have glasses that I'm supposed to wear, but I hate wearing anything on my face [including sunglasses]. My eyesight has deteriorated significantly since starting nursing school. So, no doubt I will have to have a new prescription. Now I have no choice but to wear glasses if I want to be able to read anything.
Go get lasik!

One thing I never dreamed of adding to the bags and sags and lines ... Getting older has some drawbacks

I've had to wear glasses since I was 5. I remember the pairs that I had with the glass lenses. I was really thankful when plastic lenses were invented! I too need to get my eyes checked and look at getting myself some new glasses.

Welcome to my world!! I had bifocals prescribed when I was only 36, but being rather vain at the time, I promptly decided I'd rather look "young" than wear glasses with those ugly lines. So I didn't.
Fast-forward ten years: I couldn't see to read fine print anymore, and my once-reliable distance vision was beginning to go too. I snuck around with "readers" because I still didn't want to look like somebody's granny (even though I was somebody's granny) and stored them on the top of my head when I didn't "need" them......HA!
Finally, about 4 months ago I got sick and tired of squinting all the time, and tried my old pair of bifocals on. They were worse than not wearing glasses at all. So at long last, I broke down and got some REAL glasses---yep, ugly lines and all, because I am a tightwad who will not pay premium prices for the no-line "progressive" lenses. Immediately I wanted to kick myself for being so stubborn all those years, because not only could I read small (OK, regular) print again, I could also read street signs and billboards......all with the same pair of glasses. What a concept!

Never needed glasses in my life, just got my first pair of readers this year.
I hate it! They're never around when I need them and its just a pain. They are a must have for nursing school reading and tests.
