OHSU's ABSN-MSN/DNP 2018 Applicants

Published

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to start a forum for all who applied to OHSU's ABSN-MSN/DNP program for 2018-2019. I thought it could be helpful to stay updated with interviews, admission decisions, or sharing stats in order to improve applications the following year.

I applied for the Psych ABSN-DNP Track!

Hi! I just heard this afternoon that I was accepted for the ABSN to PNP program! I am still in disbelief, but I am beyond thrilled. Did anyone else here hear back yet? I am so excited to start and meet classmates!

Good luck to everyone who applied to the other tracks with upcoming interviews! I know it might differ between departments, but my interview was super relaxed and conversational, without any structured questions. I was really happy to have prepared questions to ask them about the program, because that ended up being half of the interview time!

Congrats! Is this for the MSN or DNP? I got put on the alternate list for the DNP.

Wow, that's fast! Congratulations! Out of curiosity, when did you interview? Just trying to gauge how long their turn around time is.

I interviewed last Thursday afternoon- they told me 2 to 3 week's turn around time but then I got an email yesterday!

I applied to the MSN track, but in the interview they said that everyone who starts the program this year will end up being required to complete the DNP due to changing national standards for nurse practitioners, as far as I understood.

Do you know if this new rule is applicable to all specialties, or just PNP? This is news to me.

Also, again, congratulations! I'm glad you heard back so quickly and wish you tons of luck. Fingers crossed on hearing about interviews this week. You may have already shared this (sorry if so), but do you mind sharing any of your stats? Just trying to look at those who are accepted.

Congratulations! It's great that they got back to you quickly - that probably means they were sure about you and weren't waiting to see who else would grab their attention. All the best to you!!

Random question for anyone who has interviewed in person (if anyone has on here?) - is the proctored essay still a thing? I know it's been part of interviewing in the past and think I remember them talking about it in the information sessions but I actually haven't heard anyone mention it this year so far and it seems like it'd be really unfair to both Skype and in-person applicants for only one group to do it, so I'm curious.

I know last year the ABSN interviews included a one hour proctored essay session (2x 500 word essays) but the PNP interview had nothing about an essay at all.

Maybe I was just given incorrect information then and it's not a part of the direct entry interviews. That would make more sense. Two five-hundred word essays after an interview sounds brutal, though I guess I can see why they'd want it to accompany the ABSN applications since there's not much writing on there.

Although, this year the ABSN application included two essay prompts very similar to the proctored essay prompts last year, and last year there were no application essays at all until the interview day.

Oh and my stats!

I applied to the ABSN last year and was waitlisted, spent this year finishing up the last of my pre-reqs, working and volunteering at Doernbecher.

I had a 3.65 undergrad GPA and then all As (except for one B) in my pre-reqs from PCC. I have been a CNA for 2 years and I have worked with kids for years as a nanny and in different volunteer programs (reading programs, mentor programs). I'm blanking on what other stats would be important!

Interesting! I wonder if that shakes anything up at all? I honestly wasn't expecting essays on the application so it seems like it might. Also, thanks for the stats! It sounds like you really worked your butt off and really deserve it, so congrats!
