Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

The responses are due by Sunday before midnight…So don't drain yourself Mtsteel

You're right, the posts are due tomorrow and the responses Sun. BUT my weekend is packed. I'll get all caught up and next week will be great. I am truly grateful for what's been accomplished this week. :D

Yes..I'm still waiting for my grade for strategic planning to post also. Will take Nutrition and Gerontology next. Then after that, NURSING EXCELLENCE!!!

I currently in the business communication class. It's not bad. But I would definitely preferred to take a 5wk vs 10wk writing class. Why do you have to retake community? Not enough credit hours?

Got am A in community - and it was a 6 credit class! with clinicals. I need 48 hours ffor residency requirements -

I have NEVER been this UNMOTIVATED to do discussion responses. I feel like a hamster in a wheel trying desperately to get out. I swear not having any discussion questions for my last class has made me downright LAZY…LOL

Agree - and I don't feel like I learn a thing by working up "responses" that really are just mini essays to anything in a post ---

I detest the discussion boards. Just finished posting to both...only need to complete 2 responses and I'm done...for this week. We'll all get up and running for round 2!

One more response -- then onward!!!!

Tell me about it. I feel the same way too ugh.:uhoh3: I was certainly spoilt in strategic planning.

I know cool…You go from nothing..nada…To having to do 2 discussions + 4 responses. And I tell you, the folks in my group are ON IT!!!

Finished with those discussions!!! Tada! I feel a bit inadequate after reading some of the scholarly posts...but I just have to be done with it. I spend too much time working on those and they drive me nuts! Taking a much needed break before even peaking at Mod 2. Have a great weekend guys!

I have several question that I hope someone can answer for me.* I already have a bachelors of science in healthcare administration as well as an RN license. It appears that I have all the general education requirements as well. If so, will I only need the 50 Credits to complete the core nursing classes? Can you substitute chemistry for a physics course? If not, will a D be accepted? And are there any clinical rotations that I would need to set up to complete these core nursing class requirements?

Anastaro - if you have all the Tier 1 and 2 course requirements satisfied, then yes, all you need are the nursing courses, which used to be 12 courses for 50 credits and is now 9 courses for ? credits. I don't know if OU will allow you to substitute one science course for another or if they will accept a D grade but you could call the nursing office and ask the question. Though sometimes difficult to get a hold of, I found the folks in the office very friendly and more important, willing to help.

While the evaluation process takes much. much longer than it should, in my case at least, the evaluation was fair and equitable. They worked with me to find a course that was acceptable for the Jr English comp requirement (as it turned out, one of my previous schools messed up and only sent my graduate records, and my undergrad transcript had the English courses). They were also good about the grad courses. While they would not accept my grad courses in statistics for transfer credit, OU exempted me from the stats requirement. In the end, I satisfied all the Tier 1 & 2 requirements and so have only the nursing courses to take. This was in marked contrast to another school that shall remain nameless that wanted me to repeat courses like Into Psych (for reasons they would not state) and take a bunch of other non-nursing courses, including stats.

I have NEVER been this UNMOTIVATED to do discussion responses. . .

Are you in Health Interventions? 'Cause that's how I feel and can't imagine another 4 weeks of this - 2 discussion postings with citations and 4 responses, also each with citations each and every week! The subject matter is so uninteresting that I'm seriously considering a poke in the eye with sharp stick as a bit of relief from the readings . . .
