Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

Yes, do repeat them and get full credit. I dread looking at Module 2. deltaroxxy2 are you referring to Mod 2 quizzes and getting them done? I have to stay ahead this week. Hollierncrrn, make sure to read all the details on the course requirement so you don't miss any valuable points. Good luck!

I have only been following this site for about a week but I HAD to post to commiserate with everyone regarding the dreadful discussion boards for 325. Ugh. Sooooo not cool!

Hi Kelso...Welcome to our talkative topic.

Ok so I went back and read through all my messages again and found some info I missed and/or misinterpreted. Guess I will have to be more careful. Thank you for the info!

LOL...Thanks for the reminder...As I am seriously doing some MAJOR fluffing right now...

Hi everyone I am new to this post but you guys have been extremely informative. Irecently sent an application to both suny delhi and OU. I am leaning a little bit towards Ou but a little apprehensive about all the extra general ed courses that I would have to take. Whereas with Delhi I only need to take the required nursing credits. My only turnoff with Delhi is the clinical portion and the stress of finding my own preceptor. Can anyone shed some some light into my situation? What should I do????????

Also...I have already taken cultural diversity and research with another school. Do you guys think that OU will accept it? As far as Junior english is concerned, will they ACCEPT oral communication or eng 102? I'm really confused about this requirement. THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!!

Hi sunnyd- OU's acceptance policy seems to be pretty liberal. The thing to remember is the required amout of credits needed to meet residency requirements by the university - which is currently 48. And, the jr english requirement is a 300 level course - I had multiple 100 and 200 level english credits and I have to either take or test out of the jr english requirement. Call the school of nursing - they would be the ones most able to answer your questions. The acceptance process can he a hair-pulling experience - as you have probably read here. But, I believe most of us are quite happy with the university itself once we were accepted into the program. Good luck in your search!

OK - two gripes today.

The first is 325. I don't know how I'm going to get through this yawner. Doing 2 postings and 4 responses on this subject was only marginally less painful than banging my head continuously on the wall for the week. At least with headbanging, the pain stops after a while but for 325, there's four more weeks of this torture to go.

The other is the grades from the last session. More than 2 weeks after the end of the course, they still are not posted. Ohio must have the same folks working this that they had doing my DARS.

I feel better now.

OU is pretty good about accepting other courses such as world religion, non-Western history, cultural anthropology and the like to satisfy the Cultural Diversity requirement. They're a bit more picky about Jr level English comp and my experience with them is that it has to be an advanced writing class.

I'll second rninme's advice to call the school to check.

chuckster, your comment about 325 made me laugh. I have only completed 300...tested out of 310 thank heavens! I can only hope this class is not representative of what lies ahead. I think Mod 2 appears about more reasonable. Just finished the (yaaaawwwnnn) readings. How many different ways can you spell illiteracy?? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
