Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

holy camoly and mackerel and anything else you can think of! assessment sounds like a lot. i guess we will just have to wait and see what our syllabus looks like. i really am glad i am taking only one class at a time though. some of you are amazing! i am working and have a family, and have ms with a great amount of fatigue. but some of you just amaze me working and taking 2 classes. good luck.

Lisap123, sounds like you have a full load, too. I applaud you for working through the fatigue of MS. We'll be fine in assessment...this site is wonderful when you have a question or need a boost. :lvan:

University of Illinois at Chicago - found this program through the International Association of Forensic Nurses. All online and it is a post-masters certification. If I enrolled today, price would be around 8600.00 - not sure what it will be in 3 years!!! here is some info

Johns Hopkins has a certification program you can take after completion of a BSN but it is wicked pricey!

Boston is wicked hod-core!!! lololol

I hate spending my break wondering what my final grade is for a class I finished a week ago today. Stats was my first experience with proctored tests. With technology being the way it is, wouldn't it be practical to think that they could have a test graded by now?

Very frustrating but I think the deadline is today. Keep checking. Good luck with your final grade!

rninme, what do you hope to do in forensics? I always think one needs to live in a large metropolitan area to work in that field. I'd love to learn more about your plans.

I'm kind of excited about the MSN program. One big stumbling block for me has always been cost - my employer does not provide tuition assistance, so I have to pay out of pocket. The OU program is significantly less expensive than the local alternative I had been considering. I worry is about clinicals though. The OU literature states only that "all clinical requirements can be performed at an approved facility close to where you live or work." It's not clear how much assistance OU will provide for this but if it's up to the student to arranged things, that could be a big problem. There are about 30 nursing programs in my area and the competition for clinical time at local hospitals is intense. An individual student will really have to scramble, though things may be a bit easier at the FNP level. It may be time to start a a separate OU BN-MSN thread . . .

On an unrelated note, does anyone know when grades are supposed to be posted? I don't see anything yet on the Academics tab in My Ohio though the numeric grade for the course got posted in EPIC this morning.

I'd be interested in learning more about this as well.

Ditto on the MSN program. As for grades, I found mine by just logging onto Epic. If you click on the progress link your grade will appear providing the TA has submitted it!

Chuckster, this is a GREAT thread and we may well need to start an OU-MSN like you said.

Duh, sorry:uhoh21:...just re-read your post. I'm going to see if I can find a grade on My Ohio.

Has any one taken geography 131 or History 246 online at OU? This will satisfy the TierII Trans cultural Perspective requirement. I would like to know how this course is structured, whether it is proctored, have many quizzes or exams etc. Thanks

I don't know about those courses in particular but I do know there will be a 5 week cross cultural course offered beginning winter session. They're pretty sure it will be offered each session and it's designed to fit into our program. It keeps you on the 5 week program. Keep watching for information about that. I have to satisfy that requirement as well. They couldn't tell me anymore than that.
