Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

hi i am so happy i found this site today. i just finished up the transition course and am waiting to start the assessment course next week. i had no idea we could test out. i may give it a try. i too am still waiting for my dars report. the last msg. i received from them was that it would take 10 weeks after classes started to get any transfer credit info. i do like the online experience so far. transitions was my first ever online class.

Lisap123 hi! I just finished transtions as well. I am going to try to test out of assessment as well. I have done such limited assessment the past six years I won't be surprised if I have to take the class. But, it's worth a shot. Are you taking one course at a time? I like the online format also though NRSE 300 had some bugs in it. Still waiting for my final grade. Are yours posted? Good luck to you...this site if full of great support and information.

Hi All,

I too just found this thread and wish I had discovered it sooner. Just completed NRSE 300, grades posted yesterday... Passed.. PHEW : ) I've registered for 310 and 325... Im really hoping I haven't taken on to much. Like most Im going to try and test out.. but I really don't expect to do well.. worst that can happen is I don't pass and have to do the entire class. No DARS report yet for me either! Just wanted to jump in and say hi... Good luck to all of you... see you online next week : )

Hi -glad you found us! If you scroll back several pages, deltaroxxy2 posted a website that has quizlets dealing with health assessment - I've taken a few and find them to be quite valuable!

Did you all get the email about Ohio U offering an online MSN?? I couldn't find tuition info though...

Been busy going over my assessment books :) Ready for them to put up the new classes LOL

My final grades are not up yet.

Read the email yesterday ... wish they were doing a combo MSN-ed/CNS and I would just stay there for my grad degree. Official grades not up yet.

I love love my TA Chelsey for strategic.

Glad to be done with all those management classes. Those taking intervention have you gotten your book yet?

Interesting posting from OU about getting some grant money and now planning to offer an MSN. Though there's not much detail, it looks like they will be offering an FNP specialization, which is what I ultimately want to get to. If tuition for this program is as reasonable as it is for the RN-BSN, OU would jump right to the top of my list of schools, I wonder if OU knows something about the planned move by the ANCC to require the DNP for FNP beginning in 2015. When I spoke with the head of the MSN program at a local university about the FNP just last month, she believed the new DNP requirement was a lock. She was worried that I wouldn't have enough time to get the degree and be grandfathered in - I wouldn't start until 2013, which was the last year that particular college planed to admit MSN students. If OU is just now starting up an MSN program, this would seem to indicate that they believe the DNP requirement is further in the future - after all, why start up a new program that will only be in operation for a couple of years before it needs major modification?

My final grades (for Diversity )are not yet up either.

When did you guys get an email? From what I understand the DNP issue is not a mandate. I know Univ of Cincinatti has no plans for going that route and will continue with their NP programs as a master's level curriculum. This is potentially exciting news. I expect the tuition will be at least double what it is now but that would still be reasonable. I'm definitely going to look into this. Wouldn't that be a seamless transition!?

hi mtsteelhorse, my grades are still not posted. my ta has been pretty slow this entire 5 weeks, and not at all helpful. if anyone had a question regarding the directions, she would just restate the directions to them. not much help there. we can all pretty much read at this point, but some of the directions were unclear. yeah, i am just taking one class at a time. i am not really in any rush. how about you?

has anyone out there taken assessment already? how is the class? just wondering if there is a lot of reading, tests, papers to write, and discussion boards. thanks for any info.

Lisap123, I experienced the same thing. You're pretty much on your own...vague directions and errors that admin caught after we struggled and made errors. Anyhow, I've signed up for 310 and 325 next session. I was going to take one class at a time but I'm going to try two. I want to move on to PMHNP so can't take too long. Good luck!
