Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

yeah we should just sign in to our classes and our new class should be there. someone told me our syllabus should be there by yesterday or today, but not yet. wow good luck to you taking 2 classes. i am thinking of taking the stats class at my local comm. college. goes from middle of jan to middle of may.i don't think i can take that one online. everyone says it is really hard and time consuming. so they scared me away from online. the tests are proctored anyway. i finally have a partial transcript evaluation, but i still cant get into my dars report.

i took the stats class online through ou. someone i know at work just completed it. we came to the same conclusion that they must curve the class a lot. she left practically 2 pages blank on the proctored exam and still got a b in the class.

Specializes in nursing.

i was thinking the same thing lisa! i plan on taking that one down the road......no hurry there! after hearing what deltaroxxy said.....what does that say about the class?!?! lol. they must curve big time.

thanks for your help deltaroxxy, i may give the online version a shot then. my husband says i should take the class at the college "dont u want to learn it" my answer was a promp "not really". i love the online classes and the thought of going out to a 2 hour class all winter does not sound appealing to me. is there a summer break from the nursing classes, maybe i could take it then. deltaroxxy did u take the class alone or with the nursing classes?

Lisa...I had stats and assessment together. However I tested out of assessment, so only had stats to focus on. But my teacher gave us the syllabus in advance, so I had a jump start on the class.

:)thanks so much for your help. i'm not sure if i can take 2 classes at the same time with working and my family. it is too late to add another class if i test out of assessment. i will just wait and see. i don't know why i'm in such a hurry anyway. how many classes do u have left?

i only have 4 classes left. intervention, gerontology, nutrition, and nursing excellence.

So you could be done in 2 more sessions deltaroxxy2 - man, am I jealous! I have 2-1/2 times that many classes left - that I pretty much have to take one at a time.

And I'm still waitin' for this session's grades for my Diversity class to get posted . . .

Chuckster...I'll be done 4/28/12 :yeah:

But now I'm strongly considering applying for the FNP program. Like you, I am also paying out of pocket, so $16,000 sound a whole lot better than some of these other cost I've been reading for Master's programs.

I can't believe you are still waiting on your grade for a class that is over. Have you contacted your TA?

Now you're really rubbing it in. If I could manage 2 classes each session, I could be done by the end of the Fall 1 session next year. It's tempting, not least because that gets me out of (I think) the whole quarters to semesters thing. Would be very tough coming up with the money though. Perhaps as importantly, since my brain reached it's full, albeit very limited, potential quite some time back (which means that the only way I can learn new things is to throw some of the old stuff out), I'm not sure I could do two classes at once and manage to keep a passing GPA.

I know what my numeric grade is and so know what letter grade to expect (I'm not on the cusp for one grade or the other), so I haven't bothered to contact the TA.

You guys are all ahead of me! I just took my first class. LOL

It's not that bad Chuckster. I just focus on 1 class the first part of the week, then the other class, the other part of the week. I just tell myself, I can do ANYTHING in 5wks...LOL
