Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.
I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.
As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.
As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.
Dear DeltaRoxy,Thank you for posts number 785 and 792. They will come in very handy for us newbies who start in January 2012. I am grateful for the info I find on this thread.
Wish you all the best in your OU endeavors.
Hey...No problem. Glad to help :)
You guys are all so driven to pile up the classes!! KUDOS! I don't have the brass ones to do it.....plus I like a little "me" time. With soooo much ahead of me it seems pointless to rush!
Yes...You definitely have to do what is right for you.

So..How was statistics???
i am on my seventh class at ou's rn to bsn program. so far i have taken my classes one at a time. however, i am getting fatigued, can't wait for this program to be over. i was considering speeding things along. however, i am not sure which courses would be manageable to combine together. so far the least stressful class i have taken is strategic planning. i could have easily combined another course with it, but i had no idea that the workload was so "full time work schedule friendly". does anyone have any suggestions about the work load of the following courses?
nrse325 – health interventions in nursing
nrse335- legal and ethical issues
nrse405 – research: critique and methodology
nrse 416- management issues in nursing
would it be wise to combine any of these?
some of the classes i took previously required weekly readings of 5- 6 chapters with 30 min quiz, discussion and essay. i just don't want to 'bite off more than i can chew', so to speak.
i would appreciate recommendations from anyone, thanks

from my experience, it seriously depends on what professor/ta you receive in determining how easy/hard the work load will be.
have you looked at the map? to answer your question, none of the classes you stated are offered together via the ou rn to bsn program. at least not on the map i'm using.
health interventions and health assessment, legal and ethical issues and family nursing, research and gerontology, and management issues and community health.
thanks deltaroxxy2 for your response. you are right, my remaining courses are not combined on the course map. however, i was hoping that someone out there combined any of these courses and had any suggestions. like you said it probably depends on the ta and professor.
well i could safely say that ta, laura kaszer, and professor, sue erlewine were great for strategic planning.

i've combined all of my nursing classes with the exception of transition and cultural diversity. i didn't find it challenging if you organized your time. i commit the first few days to 1 class, then the following days to the other class. did find the assignments/quizzes to be excessive, especially one you got the hang of what they were looking for. i definitely would recommend for anyone to double up if they have the time and flexibility.
Question...I'm tried so bear with me.But how do you site those Ohio University article/assignments that come up as a PDF? For instance, those in strategic planning, how do you cite the 16 steps handout we needed to read. It's a PDF.
Thanks
yeah ... the TA wasn't at all forthcoming on this question ... so I guessed! American Association of the College of Nurses, Quality and Safety Education for Nurses. (2009). The sixteen steps in moving knowledge to practice. Retrieved October 4, 2011 from https://ohio.epiclms.net
dear students,
many of you have already noticed the item recently added to your “to do” list in your myohio page concerning the tdcp. as you are likely well aware, ohio university will be transitioning from quarters to semesters, effective next fall quarter 2012. beginning later this month (oct. 17th), the college of health sciences and professions will begin the q2s advising process. in a nutshell, each undergraduate student who has started an academic program under the quarter system and who will be finishing under semesters will be required to work with an advisor to complete a transitional degree completion plan (tdcp). this plan will be the roadmap for transitional students so they will know exactly how to schedule for future academic terms and how they can finish their degrees on schedule.
in the upcoming weeks, watch your email closely for updates from your advisor, your school/department office, and from our student services office. as the university makes all the necessary resources available, we will begin the advising process no earlier than october 17th. our office is finalizing documents for the q2s advising process and we anticipate they will be available online by early next week…we will contact you with links so you can access these tools. in addition to documents specific to your major, there should be tentative course offerings through 2015 which will project when courses will be available. the best thing you can do right now is to keep checking the q2s web site for updates as new information is being added as it becomes available: http://www.ohio.edu/q2s/departments/college_list.cfm
please do not hesitate to contact our office if you have any questions.
