Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

I'd like to make you all feel good about your progress....I just spoke to my advisor about my DARS and I'll need to take about 22 classes including micro and chemistry! Now see how lucky you are??? :o omg........give me strength......

If you have ANY doubts about credits received speak with your academic advisor. I did and received credit for a course they had me listed as needing. Some of those science courses may be better at a community college where you can get real live assistance. i don't know if I could handle chemistry online. Michele...I send you strength...as my NP tells me "just shut up and do it!" LOL! :yelclap:

Im doing well. Im taking Cultural Nursing 414. About a paper due each week, When Im done Im already to take Nursing 325. I am considering taking some electives during the winter intersession. I hope everyone is doing well!!

Hi SShannon -- I'm also in 414 - what section are you?

I don't have any complaints about the papers but the quizzes on the other hand . . . Most of the questions are fair but a number of them are on topics that were never assigned. I did OK on the first one but only because I'm a good guesser. Not looking forward to the one next week.

Health Interventions (NRSE 325) is on tap for the next session.

Good luck!

Sending you strength Michellemybell and a big hug. You can do this...and I second the advise to check into your local community college for your support courses. Have you taken Micro and Chemistry in the past?? If you don't have a local CC - and you want to do online, I hear great things about the Edukan system....and their prices are quite reasonable.

I know that seems like a lot, but really it's just the 12 nursing classes plus a few others like micro and chem. OK, it's actually 10 others but that's still fewer than the number of nursing classes and definitely doable. You know the old saw about how you eat an elephant right? One bite at a time. Same principle with the classes - and far fewer calories than with the elephant.

You can do it.

Module 4 quiz complete in Strateic Planning .... it was a tricky one :smackingf

Oh man...Now I'm nervous...

Yep - I didn't like it either:(

thank you rninme, chuckster, and deltaroxxy for the advice and the hugs!!! I need to retake micro b/c of the "D" grade and it was too long ago for them to accept. I did not have chemistry either. I have to say it makes me nervous knowing YOU guys are nervous about something!! lol. I will put on my big girl pants and begin eating away at that elephant......all 22-24 pieces of it. :sstrs: .

Say aren't there only 8 class I can take in one year in this program?? I thought there were 8 "start dates".......

Michele...oh yuck...chomp.

Speaking of start dates. Will those change when they switch over to semesters?

And is there a calendar out there somewhere specific to NURSING courses starting for upcoming 2012? I found generic calendars for Ohio U. but not for nursing!

Thanks in advance

Haven't heard of any changes to our program, yet! Not sure if classes will stay as 5 weeks each? That should work fine on a semester based system.
