Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.
I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.
As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.
As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.
Thanks for the responses. I prefer reading and test taking over paper writing any day of the week. I enjoy going to the brick and mortar campus. However, I just really want to be done. Weighing the costs and time elements Ohio wins over Beth-El at UCCS. I have already applied to Ohio, submitted my transcripts (which I have had to submit some of them twice) and just playing the waiting game. I know you cannot compare RN-BSN since you have likely only done ONE. But just wondered if the experience has been positive overall. Also, I was looking for details on WHAT type of assignments were given. I think you answered that Delta Roxy. I am grateful that you all take the time to post here at all. Greatly appreciated.
michelemybell...the workspace document is a template where you fill in the blanks. You type in the document itself. The other type of document is a student created document. You create the document in Word or whatever you're using then submit as an attachment.
That's exactly what I thought and I got the answer wrong. The question I had was "a workplace document is one that is created by the student (word, pp) true or false". I just figured it was the opposite of workspace. I've been trying to get a straight answer from the TA on this. I'm not going to let this one go! TX
Never heard of a workplace document...sounds like a bit of a trick question. Let me know what you hear. I noticed my grades have changed a little since first graded. All good though! Maybe yours will change as well.
I think it was a CRAZY trick question lol. The grades changed because one of the questions did not reflect the policy change on grading. How lucky is that!! But that still has me at that B which sucks.

Great idea ! I am wondering if any applicants have an old diploma (1983) with university credits and how did they transfer to OU ?
It finally happened.
After many months (literally, not figuratively) of anxious waiting and a number of false starts, I finally got my DARS report this past Friday. It was a very long road, and a much slower journey than it needed to be but I'm very pleased with the evaluation.
I've posted a number of times here that I've had several conversations with a number of nursing evaluation staff at OU and that everyone I interacted with was positive and helpful. The evaluator that spoke with a couple of weeks ago stated in her opinion, it looked like my previous coursework satisfied all of the pre-reqs. The DARS that came on Friday reflected this which leaves me with only the Tier III requirements (12 courses) to fill. So the moral of the story, at least for me, is that the process leaves a lot to be desired but reaches a fair and equitable result in the end.
With Transitions out of the way and about half of Diversity completed this session, that leaves 10 courses to go. At 5 weeks each plus a week in between and a 5 week Christmas break, I should finish up things with the first Winter 2013 session. Truly light at the end of the tunnel.

My coworker is in her 2nd course at OU and some of her college classes are 30 years old. I know she's still in the DARS eval process, so I don't know the final outcome of what they will/will not accept. Try calling the admissions office and asking about transfer credits.

That's great Chuck that all you have to take are the nursing classes. YOu don't have to stress about trying to "fit" stuff into your schedule....

It's all about how you manage your time. You basically have a few or at least 5 days to get stuff done, so you just have to plan accordingly. I also take 2 classes at a time. Sun-Wed, I focus on 1 class, then Thurs-Sat I focus on another. The classes are challenging, but you can do well if you put in the time required. I don't think you write a lot of paper (per se), but there all a lot of fill in the box try of assignments (basically respond to questions w/2+ paragraphs). So courses have quizzes, some don't. Most have discussion boards, some don't. Follow the rubic and you'll be fine.
Good luck!!
