Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.
I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.
As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.
As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.
Chuckster:Are you taking one course at a time I presume????? With such a late graduation date?
Thanks,
Mary
Yes - I work more than full time and really don't have the extra hours needed for 2 courses per session. Even if I did have the time, I couldn't afford to shell out something like 12 hundred dollars every 5 weeks. Not thrilled about taking 14 months or so to finish things up but there's no viable alternative.

Chuckster, deltaroxxy....how are you guys getting thru this???? I am struggling....I did poorly on the last 2 assignments (apa formatting and grammar/spelling exercises). I feel very discouraged. Now all the articles plus we need to read the entire nursing scope of practice book by friday for a post(after originally being given only a handful of pages to read)? And discussion posts need to be in APA format? This is like no other online class my coworkers have taken. Any words of wisdom before I quit? lol.
Does anybody know how to read teacher's comments on the assignment grades???
Once graded, just click on open document. The edited document will pop up and you will see the instructor's notes.

IMO APA formatting and grammar/spelling are easy fixes. Are you doing your paper in a word document? If so, it tells you if words are misspelled or if there is a problem with your sentence. Do you print off a copy of your graded assignments? I found that the first assignment basically tells you how your TA grades. I always print off my first assignment and use it as a reference. Also, I read my work on 3 separate occasions prior to submitting it. Just helps me catch errors that I may have missed.
You definitely have to get the APA thing down b/c you'll be doing it throughout this program. Regarding the discussions, I've only had to do APA when I did a reference. But the post itself did not have to be APA format. That must be something new for Trans. Seems like they've really revamped Transitions.
It does get better, so just stay focused...You have a little over 2wks left....
michelemybell, don't you dare quit! I feel like the program has so many glitches (at least this first course) that hopefully they will take that into consideration??? Or are all the courses as confusing? The discussion question doesn't have to be in APA format just need to cite reference(s) within the discussion and then list your reference using APA. It's a bit ridiculous but oh well, we can do this! It seems to be more a test of perseverance than anything else.

I totally agree w/ what you said. I think Transitions is difficult initially b/c it's all so new. I had NEVER done anything in APA format until I started this program. And every class I'm learning something new.
I would suggest folks take the Junior Level English earlier than later in the course. The instructor really gives you a lot of information regarding proper APA format which really helps you "get it". The downside is that you write a GAZILLION papers..LOL

Michelle -- Take a deep breath, hold it for a few seconds, now exhale. You can get through this.
For the writing assignments, like deltaroxxy says, if you do them in Word, it will flag the misspellings. Just right click and choose the proper word. So the spelling problem is an easy one to remedy. One technique that I use when writing is to just get my thoughts down on paper (actually, the computer display), without any real regard to an orderly flow. Once you've written things out, it's a simple job to revise, then cut and paste and add some clarifying information. Use the same technique the preacher does when delivering the homily on Sunday: First tell them what you're going to say, then say what you told them your were going to say and finally, tell them what you said. Make sure that within all of this you cover the points mentioned in the grading rubric. I always hold off on submitting what I wrote for a while. This gives me a chance to think about anything I may have missed or maybe could have expressed better. You don't get any extra credit for submitting your assignment ahead of time, and you have until 23:59 (one minute to midnight) on Sunday to get things in.
As far as the discussion postings go, I never write them on-line on the EPIC board. I write them out in Word, which gives me a chance to make sure the spelling and punctuation are correct. As with the written assignments, I don't submit right after writing them and instead, re-read them to make sure I haven't missed anything and that the post says what I want to say. As mtsteelhorse notes, the posting itself doesn't have to be in APA format but it does have to have a reference that should be in APA.
As for reading the reference text, if it were me, I'd skim the book rather than read it thoroughly and simply keep an eye out for a section (or sections) that I could use in my discussion post. Keep the grading rubric in mind though.
You can do it.
Thanks Deltaroxxy, mysteelhorse and chuskster for all the encouragement and tips. I do format everything in word which is very helpful but I struggle with the punctuation too. I am nervouse over a stupid comma!!! I think the fact I did sooo poorly and am now at 78% is freaking me out. I have a hard time with the APA book and making sure I reference properly down to the last bit. It's very confusing with all those variables! The TA stressed that the posts need to be APA style in terms of grammer, spelling, punctuation, citations, etc...just as very short works....thus the panic. Now I need to find the provider refusal article!!! UGH...
There is no article...just that power point presentation (I think). This is pretty much teach yourself with virtually no assistance. I think APA is VERY challenging because most of my references are on line sources and often do not fit the criteria of the examples. The feedback we get is either clarification on the instructions or "read the book." The other problem is we've moved on to new APA asssignments and haven't received grades on the last ones. So how do we know what we need to change? I posted to the first discussion question because I HAVE get this done before Sat. I am confused about another assignment...lost your email so will PM you. Hang in there!!! Don't leave me!
Finally got a preliminary DARS after 9 months--- acckk!
Anyway - they won't accept ANY of my first BS degree because back in 88 that schhol wasn't accredited - so I have to take
