Interesting .... off topic a bit but yet similar

On Vancouver Island there is a young couple who had quads, now they are appealing to the public to help them as they don't have enough money, they are paying on 2 mortgages because they moved to a rather upscale area in town to be near parents but have not yet sold their previous house.

I watched the tv spot on them and the mom was asking for someone who was "an inexpensive nanny or nurse" to help them out, perhaps with the governments funding.

I sound so harsh, but when one makes a decision to have fertility treatments, shouldn't the discussion of affordability come into play? Like the family with 8 new babies are going to need help but should it be an expectation??

One has to wonder, too, how honest the administering providers are with the parents to be.

I know a woman who went on fertility hormones before even a trial period without birth control. She said she was ready and did not want to "wait".

Seriously?!? What insurance pays for this? :madface:

Just heard on the news while I was driving home from the bank:

The mom's name is Nadia, she's single, has 6 children at home already, lives with her parents. Neighbors aren't that happy to now have 14 kids in one house living next door.

It would seem to me that fertility wasn't the problem; but there was some lack of judgment in several places along the way.

If one penny of tax dollars go for this-----

are you ***** kidding me 31 week baby going to be in the hospital for 2 weeks! Lets have the public have even more unrealistic expectations when they have micropreemies. The media makes it sound like its no big deal to have a baby under 2lbs, and under 38 weeks. I have many parents that will say differently.

Are you kidding me? A single mother, living with her parents, with 6 more kids at home? What kind of fertility doctor would accept a patient with this history? The local news here in L.A. is just gushing over this story. The whole thing is so irresponsible.

I cannot wrap my brain around any possible scenario as to why this woman was given fertility drugs.

While I think fertility treatments are great for those who really need them, I'm afraid that too often treatments are started too soon. I thought the standard was a year of failing to conceive meant there was need for intervention. Now it seems women are off birth control and right on fertility treatment. I know a woman who went on fertility hormones before even a trial period without birth control. She said she was ready and did not want to "wait". She is now pregnant with twins. She swears this had nothing to do with the treatments despite the lack of family history. Oh yeah and she is a NURSE!

My doctor said that when I decide to start trying with my BF she is only giving me 3 months tops before sending me to an endocrinologist. I am not relishing the thought of possibly needing help to conceive, since I'll have waited so long to do so. Won't be trying until I have a job though, which hasn't happened yet.

She HAD to have used fertility treatments of some kind. I agree with previous posts: what dr in his right mind would do this?? Or even what parent?!?!?! We had a set of 23 week triplets born, and only one made it?

I would love to have a 31 weeker who will go home in 2 weeks. But its not going to happen....

It's amazing how well they say these babies are doing! Not only that they may be ready to go home in two weeks, but that they are already taking bottles! Such baloney. I know what 31 weekers can do. She'll be lucky to get them all home by the time they are term, and I can't see breast feeding lasting very long. It's Kaiser, so she does have insurance, but if she's single, she'll have to go back to work to get her insurance benefits.

Excuse me if this is a stupid question but I am not in the US .... would her insurance have paid for the fertility treatments, whatever they may have been??

The la news reported that they were surprised by two of the babies..which leads me to believe that this was a not fertility treatments. At least not IVF..

Discovery Health Channel just aired a segment on a rare genetic disorder that has been discovered by which women have multiple-multiples.. I don't at all think a woman with 6 kids.. in her right mind..unless you are in the Dugger family's cult would want 14 kids..

The babies are not receiving mom's breast milk. The milk is donor milk... And with preemies, tis not completely necessary for mom to breastfeed... just the conferring of immunity that helps such underdeveloped immune systems.
