What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

if anyone has seen the seinfeld episode, my step brother literally named his daughter seven. can you believe that?!

also, my cousin's name is lake. i don't know what my aunt was thinking with that one either.

there is a nascar driver named lake speed - for real. he's all over the circuits.

and then the irl driver named will power - but he's australian - you know those guys have a different sense of humor! :D

Well, Isabella has been a human name for a very, very long time. It obviously wasn't as popular in most recent generations until now, but it's been around for probably a lot longer than anyone has been naming their dogs Bella. I have friends whose pets have names like Molly, Max, and Sam, but I don't that makes them bad names for babies. You'd think from reactions on here they had named their baby Fido!

That's because Bella is the Fifi or Fido of this time period.

I prefer to think that most people are blessing a pet with a human name rather than saddling a baby with a pet name. Of course, there are always going to be a few that muck it up by naming their kids Fluffy or Fang, but we can hope their offspring will eventually repay the favor by biting them in the anatomy.

I get a laugh out of quirky or funky names as much as the next nurse, but I figure that with all the other current events in the world, what someone names their kid is pretty low on the totem pole of 'things I'm going to worry about today.' :)

My parents used to joke that they had wanted to name me Moet or Chandon.

...In light of those real life names, though, the joke's not quite so funny. :chuckle

It ws all amazing to read all theses funny things.

it was nice to have funny jokes and laugh out loud........

If I see another 'Nevaeh' or 'Genesis', I think I just might run screaming. Oh... and we had a 'Bella' a few weeks ago. One of my coworkers still laughs about it. Her dog is named 'Bella Rose'. She couldn't help herself... she kept calling the baby 'Bella Rose' all night. LOL

I mentioned this earlier in the thread, but there was an Angel Nevaeh born at my hospital a couple years ago. I'm not violating HIPAA by mentioning this, nor am I annoyed with the name, because this baby was not expected to live and I found out the name when I saw her obituary. She lived 3 days.

:saint:

Has anyone seen Barack or Malia? I haven't; as for Michelle or Sasha, they might have picked that name anyway.

My mother wanted to name me Susan Olivia...too bad my initials would've been S.O.B.!

I once knew a set of twins called Angel and Joy...Angel was a troublemaker and Joy a pessimist!

And from the hospital where I worked in records, Kayla and JaKayla. I can just see the fights...'yeah, well Mom didn't even give you a REAL name, you just got mine with extra letters! nyah nyah!'

How about the parents who named their son Adolf Hitler? ....remember the skier Peek-a-Boo Street--her real name.

How about the parents who named their son Adolf Hitler? ....remember the skier Peek-a-Boo Street--her real name.

I Googled her and found a couple of interesting tidbits.

Her given name was inspired by the nearby Idaho town of Picabo, (pronounced "Peekaboo"), a Native American word meaning "shining waters".

Picabo's 'rents decided to let Picabo choose her own name when she was old enough so for the first two years of her life, she was called "Little Girl." When Picabo was two, her mother took her to get a US passport for a trip to Mexico. When Dee tried to write down "Little Girl" as daughter's first name, the guy at the passport office gave her a funny look and told her she had two weeks to give her daughter a "real name." So, Stubby and Dee named their daughter Picabo (after a small village in Idaho.) When she was four, Picabo's parents said she could change her name but she decided to keep it.

Considering her parents' names are Dee and Stubby, I think she did all right. I wonder how many people would remember her apart from her name?
