What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

I guess there are three that stick out in my mind: #1 Eko XXIV (this was a good one with the vital statistics people who did not want to allow a roman numeral for a middle name but the parents got it through), #2 Record for a boy and #3 a teen mom's little girl Strawberry.

I guess if Gweneth Paltrow can have an Apple she can have a Strawberry...I prefer a Melon myself :)

I once heard of a mom who named her child Nosmoking.....said it was the last thing she saw before her c/s. I also had a teen mom who named her child Margarita......(sad). I learned from many years working with new parents how to keep a straight face.

Margarita means "Daisy" in Spanish. It is a common name in Mexico.

Some of the funniest names I've heard are:

Pirate Packer (1st and middle name)

Ima Swanger (actually pronounced Swan-gur)

Nevaeh (Heaven spelled backwards)

Daisha pronounce Day shuh

also had a step sister once named Silver Hill

I was floated to nursery the other night and we were talking about this because a pt had named her child Shithed (pronounced something different than how it was spelled but come on people!!!).

Another nurse had a pt name her twins....

(pronunciation Li-mon-gelo), with the o having a long sound, but spelled Lemonjello

and her twin you guessed it, Orangejello pronounced Or-an-gelo, with a long a.

These poooooor kids. :banghead:

What about all the people in past generations (mostly, but not exclusively, women) named Gay?

I was in my small town clinic today, and the medical asst. just calls out the name and you go in to see the doc. anyways, she calls " Echo Rain" and a young mom with the cutest little 3 or 4 year old boy went in. Sad...... He wasnt native american or anything- at least he didnt look it. blonde hair and cute.

I worked in ICU 2 days ago and had an elderly gentleman with the first name of Gentle.

Specializes in Women's health & post-partum.

I can't remember if I've mentioned this one before, but in the 1950s, between high school and college, I worked in a payroll office. One of the male employees, a man, had a first name of "Sweetie". Another employee was a woman whose first name was "Angel" By reputation at least, she was anything but an angel!

Not been on the job long, but the weirdest name I've heard so far is "Aisley" like paisley without the "p"

Specializes in urology, pediatrics, med-surg.

Took care of a 60-ish female this weekend named Baby Ruth. She was named for a relative named Baby Ruth and was called Baby Ruth her whole life. It was really unfair when I hadn't eaten anything by 1430 that day and two of my patients were Baby Ruth and Cookie!:lol2:
