Have you ever had a case where the mom actually didn't want the dad in the delivery room b/c of various reasons(aggravation, etc)
Whats your opinion? I think I would find it annoying that the man who MADE me pregnant was right there in my face while I am in complete and total pain!!

What a weird question...!
For me, I could think of nothing I would want MORE than my husband to be with while I'm in that pain.
That's kinda the role of the husband, you know. Support and all that stuff.....

Well, obviously, it's the woman's choice whether to have the man there or not. She has the right to privacy afterall. I haven't had a case like that yet, but I wouldn't be surprised nor would I be upset at the woman for choosing it to be that way.
Now, as for being annoyed with my husband, I don't think I would be. This is a beautiful experience that should be shared by both people. If the couple is on good terms, then it should be okay, imho.

God knows I've been ready to drop kick some visitors straight out the OB window, but unless mom doesn't want her partner in the room I absolutely think he should be there.

I think the one pushing out the baby gets to decide who stays in the room with the exception of safety issues (too many people in the room, or dangerous behavior from her visitors).

"Made you pregnant"?!?!?!? I would hope that you would want your husband to be present...oh yeah, just in case you do not already know: the next few months at home with the new baby will not be a walk in the park either...you might actually desire the presence of the "one who soeth his seeds"...
Obviously certain circumstances may require all visitors to be asked to leave the area. However, I do not think that is within the role of the nurse to actively screen who should or should not be allowed into the birthing suite except under those previously mentioned "certain senarios".
It seems that more often than not the term Family Nursing applies only to the mother and child. The physical and psychosocial needs of the father are largely ignored. Our colleagues in the Business Office certainly do include both parents in their operations though .

I know the movies portray the laboring mother beating up, cussin', kicking and screaming at the FOB but I have rarely seen this. One of those urban legend/old wives tales. Most mothers want the FOB in the room.

Sometimes the birth experience isn't all about the one deliverying. Fathers find tremendous joy in the experience as well. Machno men with queasy stomachs are going to say they don't want to be there, and many need coaxing, but ask a man to give you the highlights of his life. 9/10 are going to mentiont he birth of their children.

Hopefully you and the father had decided to have this baby together...as a mutual decision. I would hope no one MADE you be pregnant against your will.

he was the only one i wanted. when i had visitors like my dad, my grand-mother and then his parents they seemed way to nervous. i was having a really bad time and he really made things better. so imo if maybe the mom-to-be and they father-to-be have a strained relationship why not?? i will never forget the look on his face when his baby was born he was crying right along with her......

It's mom's call. I couldn't have imagined giving birth to my son WITHOUT my husband there. It was a very moving experience for us both, and I'm glad we got to do it together.
