NYU Accelerated Nursing Fall 2020

Published

Hi guys! Thought I'd make a forum for NYU's ABSN Program for fall 2020.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Alexis Paige. Currently in California. I received my BA in psych from a private university with a GPA below 3.0. Took pre-reqs in multiple community college while working. Ended up with the same GPA as undergrad ?

Here's my stats:

Anatomy: C (planning to retake in spring 2020)

Physio: A-

Microbio: C+ (planning to retake in spring 2020)

Chem for health sciences: C+

Nutrition: A

Stats: C

Lifespan dev: B

Volunteer experience at Stanford University. Do you think I have chance with NYU? I feel like my only hope in getting in are the letter of recs + personal essay.

Feel free to comment whatever is on your mind. What are your stats? Where are you from and what other schools will you be applying at? Help a sistah out!

thats how I feel too and with Rochester the cost of living is much cheaper. I would have to take out loans with Rochester anyways, but its still like a $30,000 difference. I'm from Long Island too and I'm not sure how I feel about going so far away because I eventually want to live back down here, but I also dont picture myself living in the city lmao

I thought all nursing schools are simulation labs for awhile, no?? do you think job placement would differ NYU vs Rochester? and also did you apply to Rochester as well or just NYU?

IDK w/ labs just what peeps have told me LOL

and also I would love to go to school where I can for connections in job placements..aka I do believe with nursing school and PA school ect its better to go to school where you want to work. not necessarily better but it is easier to get a job. this is my opinion. because you can meet people during clinical placements and externships. luckily I know a lot of people who work for the major nyc hositals and private hospitals

I applied to the 2

I don’t know if is me but after reading so many articles and seeing so many videos of nurses and physician crying their eyes out because they are not being protected or talking about how their colleagues are dying, are you guys having second thoughts about this career?

I can’t say that I am having second thoughts but I am definitely more scared now to become a nurse than I ever was before. However, and I can’t speak for all here, just me, that I believe this career is a calling and I intend to stick with it. Nursing is not an easy job by any means , even though it is very rewarding. Being at the frontlines during a pandemic makes it 10000x harder.

Not at all. I actually want to be a nurse even more now. I have a small family, no spouse or kids, and not much to lose. If I could take the place of at least one medical practitioner with a family so that they could be home with them right now, I would. It actually sucks having so many years of medical experience but not being able to do anything without a degree or certification.

does anyone know if there any cons of not completing fasfa by april1?

I’m applying as a transfer for the BSN. When I did the application it only asked for the name of the school and the my official college transcripts. But on the website is says applying as a transfer you need to send HS transcript. I had spent all day trying to get in contact with the school and emailing and I haven’t been able to get a hold on anyone.;(

Pretty sure for the ABSN, HS transcripts aren't required since you already hold a Bachelor's Degree. I never sent mine in and my profile has shown my application as complete for weeks now.

Did you guys even read the article? I understand that nursing is a commitment and an oath, but for hospitals to put physicians and nurses to keep an image says a lot. To have equipment and not allow nurses wear it, or not allowing nurses to wear their own safety equipment. Not to start a debate but it makes you wonder. If the hospitals are not protecting the nurses currently working, what makes you think that they’ll protect us?
