hey there!
i just submitted my application for nyu, fall 2009. it was a pretty lengthy process, which i guess is good because their application is very well rounded. now the waiting starts!
has anyone else applied for fall 2009?? i applied for several other schools but nyu is definitely my #1 choice. i'm so nervous!!!

good website with course descriptions:
I really wish NYU would e-mail out decisions. The wait is killing me!! My two and half months of patience cracked on Monday and I called admissions and was told all the letters for transfer students went out on May 1st. Still nothing in my mail today....Thanks for letting me moan.
Hey ExpatHopeful,
I feel your pain! I sent my application waaaaaaaaaaaay back in December and stil NOTHING. I don't even think they looked at my application yet!
Hey! im going to the August 31st orientation too! I'm from California and won't be able to make it. I will also be living in the student housing for transfer students =D. Im pretty sure there will be other nursing students also. I might be wrong, but i think the dorms on 26th street is filled with medical students. I think that is the one right next to the NYU medical center that houses most of the transfer students.
hi everyone, a new facebook group was created: NYU Accelerated BSN Fall '09 at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=78914618094. Just got my acceptance today! For everyone who is still waiting, hold out hope-- it is still possible!
hey everyone!
i was also accepted to the absn for fall 09. i am having a lot of difficulty deciding between nyu and another school.
just to let you all know i went to nyu for an undergrad tour. i am from ct so i go into the city a lot and was unsure as to how i felt about living in the city. when i got to nyu i was pleasantly surprised. i felt very comfortable there. i also went to the nursing building and asked if there was any way i could get a tour. everyone was so helpful, i met a lot of the nursing staff and they let me tour the labs. the labs are very nice and include simulation rooms. but, all the schools i’ve toured have been like that.
the staff told me that there are 6 to a clinical and that they no longer go to long island. i am unsure if this is true or not b/c im reading diff on the internet but they did tell me that and i will call to make sure on monday
they also said there are 12 to a lab group which i thought was a good #.
they said the program is intense which we should all expect, but that if you have nothing else going on you will be fine, it is doable.
the only thing i cannot get an answer about is cost including tuition, housing, transportation, books, lab fees, kaplan fee (for nclex practice), and medical supplies. does anyone know what the cost of the accelerated program is start to finish???
good luck to everyone!
Hey Kelzy!
They wont let me private message yet bc I dont have 15+ posts. Thank you so much for taking the time to get back to me! That number sounds soooo high, when I called them they said 18250 a semester plus 198 lab fees....does your number include books and transportation?
Also, I was thinking about living on campus for the 1st semester...so thats another 6000 at least. Fasfa is giving me barely anything....I dont know what to do bc I really want to come there but, I need to make a decision by wednesday and dont know if the money situation is going to work out.
If you dont mind me asking do you know about any private loans? Id obviously have to take out a really big one! Sorry this is so long, hopefully Ill be able to private message soon! Thanks again!

I took that number directly from my account summary, so it's accurate. That doesn't include books or transportation. Books have been about 500 a semester. An unlimited metro card, I think is about $80 a month, but if you live in the dorms there are NYU buses that can take you around for free. Well, they will take any student, you don't have to live in the dorms.
I'm getting my private loans through Citibank. I looked at Sallie Mae and a few others and Citibank gave me the lowest interest rate. I'm using them for my federal loans as well. You shouldn't have a problem getting a private loan, especially if you have someone that can co-sign for you. I didn't get a lot of federal money, so most of my money is coming from my private loans. It's a heck of a lot of money and ridiculously scary, but it's my only option to pay for school and I'll pay it back eventually.
Hope that helps!

hi guys, here is some info i just learned about NYU from the student affairs office:
"The NYU College of Nursing has state of the art simulation labs which have been incorporated into the nursing curriculum. Our urban campus provides a vast array of academic, cultural, and social resources available. The College has partnerships with over 100 different hospitals and agencies (in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx), allowing our students the opportunity to experience a variety of clinical sites before graduation. Students are in clinical groups of no more than six.
The NCLEX pass rate has varied recently from 90 - 96% on the first attempt. The national average is below 90%."
