if you don't mind me asking- in general, to those who were accepted: what kind of grades did you get on the major prerequisites?

I had a deadline to put down a deposit for another school, so NYU worked with me to get my decision by phone. I'm accepted! The admissions counselor told me that my packet will be arriving in about a week. It seems like they are accepting people in batches. I thought that because they'd already sent a big batch of letters out, that I'd have less of a chance of getting in. I was seriously doubting I'd be accepted. Hang in there! Best of luck to all.

My prerequisite grades were all straight A's, with an A- in Chemistry. My undergraduate transcript, however, was less than stellar (not even a 3.0) and I had some explaining to do.

Lizet764, I am also coming from out of state: all the way from the west coast, California. Where are you coming from?

jmohio, I am interested in looking for roomate also. Last week I visited the campus and I was planning on looking for a place during early fall...

I live in Brooklyn and I'm getting an apartment in Williamsburg, across the river on the L train, to be closer to school. I'd like to share my place with a classmate. If you're interested, please email me at [email protected] I'd likely get the apartment for June 1, but I can sublet for the summer if you will be arriving in September.

how much would be the rent if you don't mind me asking, i wouldn't mind living out there [i'm pretty familiar w/ the subway system and the city itself]

I am new to this forum and am really glad to see that there are people out there in the same position as me. I applied for the Accelerated BSN in the very end of Feb. and I still have not heard anything. I got a request for my midterm grades in the beginning of April and I am still waiting to hear something. It is making me crazy. Did anyone get acceptances by email or do they all come in through the mail? I would really like to hear from current students about the program.

They informed me that they mail out letters- no electronic acceptance/rejection. I'm unsure as to why it is taking so long for them to send the letters to everyone?! perhaps it could be good thing, who knows. although the anticipation is killing me as well!

Mehr,

The rents in NY that I'm looking at right now, for 2 bedrooms are between $1700 and $2100 depending on the area and how nice the apartment is. Rents have dropped considerably since a year ago because of the economic downturn and it is a great time to move to NY. I live about 40 minutes away from NYU, in Brooklyn. Now, I can move to a place that is closer to school and has a lower rent.

A monthly Metrocard for the subway/bus costs $82, and will probably be increased to $100/month because the transit authority is doing horribly financially and needs to raise funds. We're going to need a metrocard for our clinicals anyway, so even if you plan on living within walking distance of NYU, I would budget for this as well.

I've lived in Brooklyn for 2 years now, and yes NY is an expensive city, but it's also more easy to live in inexpensively than one would think. There is amazing cheap and healthy food, farmers markets, not to mention sample sales, thrift stores, rummage sales, free yoga and pilates (!), etc. For every rip-off, there's a bargain to be had. For instance tomorrow morning I'm lining up at Lincoln center at the crack of dawn (7am) to get $25 orchestra seats for the NYC Ballet.

ucdavisstudent, I am coming from California too! The Bay Area to be exact...and you?

Has anyone heard the best way to make up the difference between the amount of financial aid offered and the total cost of the program? I got my financial aid package in the mail today and it's not looking good.:o My expected share of the cost is around 33k for the year and I'm pretty poor. Does anybody know what the best option is for private loans? Are they hard to qualify for in these tough economic times?

About the GPA.... 4.0 in all prerequisites...but graduated undergrad with a 3.0....yikes...

About the housing....I'm planning on living on campus...I think it'll be easier with the cross-country move. I'm not sure what the exactly what the housing options are, but I'll probably be getting some info in the mail soon...

Hello-

I got my financial aid package for the Fall 2009- Spring 2010 as well and am considering taking out private loans. There are always unexpected costs associated with school/living in general/ and the city and I want to be prepared. Obviously it is not advised to work while in school. Anyone who is in the program or has completed- please advise. I can calculate the tuition, but what can I expect for books, uniform, other school related costs?

Thanks all!

Lizet764,

I'm coming from Salinas (Monterey Bay area). I think the transition will be a little more difficult for us but I'm sure we'll be fine. We should keep in touch and help each other. I know I'll need a lot of help! :p

I'm also poor...I've contacted the financial aid office and asked about my awards. They said that there's not too much additional funds available and told me to look for private loans. Does anyone have any recommendations??

I remember during the information session that there are a number of scholarships available that we can apply to while we are in school. So UCDavis, don't count that out as an additional source of funds. I would also contact the government of your home city or state and see if there are any other scholarships to which you can apply. There are others based on region, religion, ethnicity, etc. Do a search and see what you can come up with. Just an idea, and an avenue that I'll be pursuing as well.

I'm floored by the amount of debt that we'll be in, but if we budget well and are frugal, we WILL be able to pay it off intelligently. It's a struggle, but don't let it bog you down I guess... I'm trying not to let it get to me either!
