Has anyone recieved any new information on the orientation in July? How much does it cost, etc?

Curious to know why the orientation is two days long......

Hey UCDavis,

I agree! I'm nervous/ excited about moving to the east coast. The move will be a little tough, but we'll be fine. Keep in touch. Where are you planning to live? I won't be able to go to the July orientation, so I'm going to be a little behind on what's going on...

missathena, thanks for the info. I'll definitely try to find some funding that way.

Lizet764, I'm not sure if I'll be able to make the July orientation either. It kinda sucks cause we wont be able to talk to other students and network. But I will see you at the orientation on August 31st right? Hopefully a good number of students attend that one too. I'm still in the process of looking for a place. I was thinking it'd be a lot better to get a 2-3 bedroom apartment so we could split the costs of gas/electricity/internet/etc...are you interested? Or did you already find a place?

Congrats everyone! I JUST got my acceptance letter today... and had already put my deposit down for georgetown! :( I thought I was completely set on GU, but I'm now leaning more towards NYU ... its wonderful that there will be many california residents! (I'm originally from Canada, but went to USC for undergrad and now working at UCSD!)

Anyways, if anyone wants to share why you chose NYU over any other schools, please let me know what factors really made you set on NYU :) I'll have to official decide within the next week or so. Thank you and congrats to everyone on their acceptance!

Hi everyone! and to my fellow Californians (I'm from San Francisco),

I am new to this chat but have been following it for a while. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the discussion posts. So I too am still waiting for my admissions decision and it is driving me crazy!!! I got accepted to Georgetown and have to send in a deposit by next week. Sometimes I get pretty frustrated that we haven't heard back yet (especially since it seems that many NYU's student decision deadline was May 1st!) but then I think at least we are not rejected! Trying to stay positive, I guess.

A few quick questions: Does anyone know how long NYU has had the accelerated program? how many people are in clinicals? what the NCLEX pass rate is? and does anyone know anyone who has been in the program that has said they think its a good program and has enjoyed it??

Anyway, good luck to everyone and I hope to see you in the fall!! Oh, if anyone is on facebook there is a facebook group which may help people connect as well! the group is called NYU College of Nursing at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=16106538246

I am rethinking whether or not I will go to NYU. I visited, and every lecture has 200 people in it. The only time you're in a smaller group is in clinicals. You don't know where your clinical is, its assigned to you. Could be in Brooklyn or Queens, and at most an hour and a half commute. Some students I spoke to said that the professor basically just reads from slides, and that you have to teach yourself everything. One girl even told me that if she could do it over again, she wouldn't go! That is just the opinions of a few students, but I can't ignore their comments. NYU is a lot of money!

Personally, I think that considering that the city already is big, I wouldn't on top of that want another huge educational environment. I love NY and I want to stay here, but I think I'd do better in a smaller, more personal program for 15 months. It's such a short time, and I'm not going to have a life during that time anyway because it's so intense. I know that I wouldn't be able to take advantage of the things I've usually done in the city while I've lived here (rock shows, the ballet, etc). That's where I'm at right now.

Hi marti0317,

I think NYU does send decisions in batches - my letter was dated April 29th and they state that you must send in the deposit 3 weeks after the date of the letter, so essentially everyone's deposit due date is different (mine would be May 20th). So don't give up hope yet! I also read somewhere on the website that they do rolling admissions until July? So it could very well be that they will be sending out admissions until July.

From other threads, it appears that the NYU accelerated program is relatively new compared to the other ABSN programs - I actually didn't get a good vibe about the program. I read that the class is about 200 people - opposed to georgetown's 65 - so this is a huge consideration for me as well... It worries me that NYU hasn't really given any details about the program (not even the NCLEX pass rate!). If anyone can provide more detail about the program - please do share!!!

Overall, I was very impressed when we went to Georgetown's interview - they took the time to get to know us and educate us about the program. I absolutely fell in love with the program when I visited! But now that I got admitted to NYU, part of me feels like I can't pass out on the opportunity to study in NY as well. Its so difficult to decide :(

I'm sure you will hear from NYU soon. If granted admission, where do you think you would go? (NYU vs Georgetown?)

Thank you for the info! Its really helpful to know you actually went to the lectures. I totally wanted to visit the campus too - but I know I can't fit that in within 2 weeks since I'd be coming from California. That's sort of the same vibe I've been getting from reading other threads on this website. I was wondering do you know how much NYU's tuition is? What other schools are you choosing from?

hey sasagrrl,

that is so weird! i feel 100% like you do about NYU's program and how much I love Georgetown's!!! I have a friend in the GU's program and she really likes it and they seem like they really care about you there. As far as NYU, i cant even get admissions people to email me back! I tried to ask them if i could get in touch with a former student or if they had an info session on the west coast (they just said that "they dont actively recruit" on the west coast). i am sure NYU gets way more people applying there and are really busy but it still sends off a vibe that youre not worth much to them or something--no offense to anyone that will be going there but thats a little bit how it feels.. (for current students, please post your experiences!) so i mean for the money, two totally different vibes. I am really drawn to NYC and that is where I see myself living and feeling more comfortable vs. dc. but i have a best friend in dc who loves it so who knows! and there is one more thing... my boyfriend of 4 years will be going to columbia in the fall so i really want to live with him in NYC. but if he was not in NY, i think i would choose Georgetown (i just feel like i dont know much about NYUs program??). ill post any info i find from NYU. good luck!

Yes, there are certain drawbacks to NYU 15 month accelerated program, such as the price, class sizes, seems like relatively new program, etc. For me, personally, huge deciding factors were matters of convenience and availability. At least for classes, I am within a 10 minute walk- as for clinicals, who knows. I definately wanted to do an accelerated program but for one reason or another, eliminated certain programs. For instance, Adelphi has a GPA requirement, counting every credit in their calculation, regardless of if you were in school 50 years ago or new grad. I totally messed up in my first BA, did not meet their requirements and did not want to keep take classes I do not need (as per their suggestion) in order to bump up my GPA. And Molloy in Long Island I heard has a great program, but not a realistic commute for me. The Cuny school are cheaper and have great programs but you cannot just apply for their nursing program. I think you need to do at least a full semester, then apply to their BS or AS programs. I have read posts totally bashing NYU and others loving it. Through it all and at the end everyone have difference experiences. Good luck to you all!

I agree, we've all got to weigh our options and see what's most important. The other program I got into is about 45 minutes away from Boston and my family. If I were choosing btw NYC (my current home) and somewhere I had no connection to, I think that weighing the pros and cons would be quite different!

hey guys im in the same boat. NYU v Georgetown. Its really hard to decide. I live in NY so a part of me feels like I should just stay here, it will probably be easier for me $ wise and this way I don't have to go through the hassle of finding a new place to live in DC.
