How hard is it to get into NYU

That is not necessarily true. The larger the school, the more seats available. In general, there are a limited number of seats in most nursing programs. The accelerated nursing program in the college of new rochelle (which is a private school around 25,000/semester) has 8 seats. Downstate accepts 45-50 ppl per term. NYU is a big school, the incoming class has around 200 students out of the thousands that apply. So while you may have better luck with an expensive school because ppl tend to flock to those first, there is still limited space in most programs due to space, nursing faculty and hospital availibilty for clinical rotations.

Also, don't know if this helps but if you are quitting your job or reducing your hours at work (basically making significantly less money than you did in 2008 in order to attend NYU) you can fill out a form on the financial aid website to appeal the amount of $$$ given in your award. I called the financial aid office and they said that since I will be unemployed as a result of having to attend fulltime I should fill out this paper and they will more than likely give me more money. However, from what I hear the new amount is not significant....something like $3,000.....its a large amount on paper, but doesn't come close to putting a dent in $60,000 of tuition.....

    NYU Accelerated BSN Fall 2009

Yeah m83j I agree. I pretty much maxed out my loans from my first undergrad degree so now I am kinda stuck and not sure how to come up with all the money to foot the bill. I don't know if it is true or not but I heard that once you are in the program you can apply for your masters, which would make you a BSN/MA dual-degree student. Then you will be eligible for the same graduate loans that your boyfriend gets. This is assuming that you plan on getting your masters and that NYU offers the masters degee program that you want. Again, don't know if its true, but its worth looking into. I want to get my CRNA, which NYU doesn't offer so this does nothing for me :-( I believe you can get a loan from any bank of your choice. I don't see why you would have to go thru NYU's financial aid. At the end of the day so long as your bill is cleared and you are up to your eyeballs in debt, why would NYU care? Also, how long after filling out your FASFA and sending in your deposit did it take for you to get your award?

    NYU Accelerated BSN Fall 2009

Well I got my acceptance letter a montha ago. The deadline to accept/reject their offer of acceptance is May 1. So perhaps they are waiting to see how many people accept the offer from the first batch of letters so that they know how many seats are left to offer second batch of acceptance letters. If they have a waiting list like some schools maybe some people will be put on the waiting list after they see how many seats are left...... Just an assumption....

    SUNY Downstate- where to live?

FYI ladies (and gents) I recieved my letter, sorry to say its not good news . Downstate was my first choice but from what I understand they get 500 applications and only take between 50 - 60 students. However, I did get accepted at NYU's accelerated program, its more $$$$ than Downstate, which I hate but what can you do??? Good Luck to all still waiting!!!!!!!!!!!

    NYU Accelerated BSN Fall 2009

From browsing the thread it seems that the classes used to be somewhere between 80-95 students, but for the last two years the classes have swelled to around 185 students w/ small clinical groups btwn 8-10 students.....not sure if this is accurate

Congrats to you as well Scouter82!!! I am waiting to hear back from other schools as well. The tuition at NYU is kinda steep.....so I'm hold out for SUNY downstate, I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Good luck on your other choices. Where else did you apply if you don't mind me asking?

Anyone hear from SUNY Downstate for Summer '09 yet?

Still waiting on a decision....I'm wondering if a delayed response means that I didn't get in....I called today because I couldn't bare waiting any longer and was told that decision letter was sent out last week Friday so I should be receiving it some time this week. I already got accepted at the accelerated NYU program but the tuition is soooo steep. I would really rather go to Downstate :-(
