NYU ABSN Fall 2013 Entry

Published

Hello everyone! I have submitted my application and my transcripts to NYU for the ABSN program beginning in fall 2013! I am very excited but surprised that we will be hearing so late about an admission decision. Is anyone else applying?

I don't think there is a box for recommendation letter as it is not required. I don't have the box and have been told that all of my documents are complete including my two rec letters.

Congrats to all the new admits!

they will not show.

Hey everyone. So have any of you actually spoken with a student who went through the accelerated program? I'm still on the fence on whether or not to accept my acceptance offer and was hoping to get some insight from current students if the program was worth it. NYU was the only program I applied for that started in the Fall so my other option would be to wait and apply to programs that start in May like Columbia or Stony Brook. I was wondering if people thought spending the money on NYU was worth it and paid of with a job or what not in the end or helped them get in to NP programs.

Okay thanks, I was paranoid I was missing something. I should double check with them. Who did you contact to ask about your documents?

You can call admissions and they will connect you with someone who checks your file. Also, check to make sure they have everything else too as some things on my list were checked off prior to them actually getting matched.

Have a friend that I had in pre-reqs in SF, that started the program in Fall 2012. He absolutely loves it. Best experience he could have asked for. Started clinicals right out of the gates. Totally do-able and challenging at the same time.

I have spoken to several recent grads or almost grads who think the program is great. The one complaint I hear consistently is the cost.

I don't know for sure but I think that some of the other privates complete their ASBNs in 3 terms (12 months) but NYU takes 4 terms (15 months). This translates to an extra semester tuition and higher overal cost. I am hoping that less cramming of the degree will provide the time or opportunity for externships or volunteer work that will translate into job offers.

Hello everybody! I got accepted into NYU and LIU, but not sure which school to attend. Also, I still need to take Nutrition in the summer if I choose NYU. Since I will be busy in the summer, I was considering taking Nutrition online at a community college. I have never taken any science courses online or at a community college so I don't know if NYU will look highly on that. Has anyone taken prerequisites at a community college?

Nutrition online depending on your instructor, shouldn't be so bad. I know NYU doesn't want you to take online courses for the major science classes, except for nutrition and Human Growth and Development.

Since most of their pre-reqs were labs, you really can't do those online. But nutrition and psych don't require labs so they are accepted for online transfer. If I get into NYU, I have to do that as well and I don't plan on going to the school because I want a more flexible schedule during the summer.

@ 2jeanne where are you located? What time zone? Ny?

I'm in nyc. Eastern time.

Brookl and 2Jeanne

Congratulations!!!!!

If you don't mind me asking, what were your credentials?

My undergrad degree is in engineering. 2.97. Grad degree in engineering 3.7. Pre-req's -4.0.

6yrs as a naval officer - overseas for 9/11/enduring freedom/Iraqi freedom. 4 years in corporate America at Fortune 500 manager in manufacturing than recruiting/HR manager.

SAHM for the past 4 years - worked as doula and families with young children with a parent suffering from Chronic illnesses.

Wrote my essay on how I learned to listen to my sailors to help them make positive life & career choices/ experiences as doula/goal to be an NP & researcher of chronic disease management.

I'm probably have as diverse a background as can be - which may have helped. It was my honest life story. My past 4 years as a SAHM allowed me figure out nursing is my calling.

I only applied to NYU and CUNY. I like NYU (as opposed to Columbia) because we can start grad school right away. Plus, the long breaks between semesters will give me time to catch up with my kids & family. Plus, we can work & do research during the breaks. I'd like to work as an RN while getting my NP.

I look forward to meeting everyone. I'm so excited to be part of this exciting field. Yes, costs are high - but things have a way of working out. That being said, I am waiting for my financial aid package before I accept.
