Nursing student in distress...Please Help !!!!!

Ok, So i am in my 2nd level of LVN school.... And I am currently taking MED/SURG 2. and I just don't get it. I can't tell you why I don't get it but I don't. My grades are not that bad, and I am not affraid of failing... but it takes everything I have to go to this class. MED?SURG 1 that is a breeze. Monday class good instructor, all that. As for med surg 2... I would rather stab my self in the eye, than have to go back. I need some help, positive words, anything to get me through the next 4 weeks.

Every nursing student has at least one class they can't stand in school, and it looks like you've found yours. Hang in there, it's only four weeks and it will be behind you.

I tell you when we went in to Adult nursing/Med-surg II i thought i was toast! I hated learning it and memorizing all those diseases, and medications...i was pulling my hair out...but once i stuck it through it just kinda started to CLICK and everything began to gel in my head. Give it some time and stick in there you will do GREAT!

Ugh, this was a class

[evil]hated![/evil]

But as the others posted above, you can do it! Talk to your instructor and let him know how you feel! Maybe he can share some personal experience with you and maybe help you find a way to understand it more.

I know what you mean, I fought my way through OB/Peds. The clincal portion was a breeze, but the class...ugh. I just kept counting the weeks until it was done. It took everything I had to get through that. You will make it and be thrilled when that class is over.

Maybe if you post what you are not getting, some of us can help?

Med-Surg 2 is probably incorporating some critical thinking into the curriculum which forces you to dig a little deeper and can seem overwhelming. Hang in there and you'll get through it.

Thank yall so much. I needed that encouragment cause I was really thinking that I needed to go be a farmer somewhere. And Lori, I might have to take you up on that offer. :specs:

We had 3 Med-Surg rotations and on my second one I felt the same way. I remember my first clinical day thinking that I was going to quit that evening. If it was not for an LPN saving me that day I would have.

I am now a RN for 3 months in the OR and I am so BLESSED. I can not believe that just this time 2 yrs ago I was starting the clinical portion of school. You can also make it. Just keep your chin up and please let me know if I can help you. :D

someone once told me this "ake it easy on yourself, focus on the basics of the unit" it didnt make sense then, but once i did, i stopped being too hard on myself..and as on of the posters above said, there is always a unit that you feel like you are drowning',,,just keep your head above the water and breath(maybe not the most appropriate of quotes but i hope you understand what am trying to put across)

YOU CAN DO IT!!
