  1. Circulators- (or other nurses that take call) What kind of cool call schedules does your facility have?
  2. I have seen hundreds of successful procedures and lives improved by us in the OR. The few that we have taken to ICU knowing that they were going to die, came from ICU knowing that surgery only improved their chance of survival by a small percent, and yes, we rushed them back to the UNIT to die with their family. As for a Lap Chole going bad....that is a whole other story that you may want to find out what was really wrong with the procedure/surgeon.
  3. CRNA is more school and yes, anyone can obtained this status. You would be able to see first hand before going back to school if you are interested in this. Do I ever get bored? I have not been there long enough. I have been there about a year but I also do other projects on behalf of my OR for the Health System that I work for. I do not know if you can ever really get too bored as you are constantly getting new employees to train, new surgeons, new ways to do procedures and every case is a little different.
  4. So far OR=0 and ICU = 1........ I work in the OR so let me get a point in for them. We have a set schedule....normally M-F with weekends and holidays off. I have to be on call evening/night during the week, one weekend day a month and one holiday a year. I can go ahead and plan for all of the holidays during the year to be with family and friends. Now to nursing.....I have one patient in the OR. I meet them in SDS and then they put all of their trust in my team (and I call them mine as I will explain later) as we take them to surgery. I try to put their fears at ease as they slip off to sleep. I then have to be incharge of the room and everything that goes on with in it. I am THEIR voice. I now have to be the nurse to the patient, the surgeons, the anesthesia, the scrubs, the floor nurses that are constantly calling the surgeons to ask questions, the PACU/SDS that needs to ask one question about the last or the next patient, and back to being the patient's voice. I then have to get the patient to recovery, give report, turn-over (clean) the room, get report on the next patient and get them into the room in less than 19 mins making sure that I have all of the meds and supplies that I need for the case. But I love my job............... Ask me any questions and I'll answer as soon as I can.
  5. We get a $1 for OR and $ for BSN
  6. We are located in West Atlanta and have 5 hospitals and many doctor's offices. If you want to talk more, message me. If you apply and put my name on the application, I'd split my referral bonus.
  7. Sorry to smile at your post but I have felt this way so many times. I have been in the OR for about 14 months but because I am the superuser for the OR Electronical chart I have only been in the rooms for about 7 months. I am finally feeling comfortable but I find that I am improving and still learning every day. Don't give up just take time at the end of the day to review what it is that you did both good and bad for the day's events. Good Luck!!! (message me if you want to chat)
  8. Forgive the new nurse....but what is this??
  9. I am going to have to try this!! Just too funny...
  10. It is amazing to me how the cleanest looking person can have such nasty belly buttons.
  11. Just thinking of something that has changed since starting in the OR....... I have a cleaner umbilicus. Anyone agree?? If you don't, have you done your share of Laparoscopic procedures?
  12. We only wear them when the set-up is open in the room.
  13. We are required to do less than 19 mins or we have to write and incident report stating the reason that we could not get it accomplished. It happens most of the tie but I hate it when the doc thinks that we have taken too long because it was a complicated anesthesia wake-up after the surgeon has already left the room.
  14. I have this problem and I work as an OR Nurse. I find it easier to control because we are able to wear the hair nets that are material and I have some made with a sweat band for the forehead. It works out great and I only notice sweat in other areas when I wear the lead aprons. You should be fine but if you want to go into dental, I would consult a doctor and try the botox. Good Luck!!
  15. I love that when I take a family member back to the OR suite, I have put the family at ease that I will do my very best to take care of their loved one. I love that they believe in me. I love to tell everyone that I am a nurse. Even though I have only been doing this for about 8 months, I love the respect and team work of my team in the OR.
