Nursing School Jitters?

Published

I start Nursing School Janurary 14th @ 8am. My schedule is 8am-5pm M-F until we start clinicals which are 7:30am-3pm. 9 hour school days are LONG! whew. I'm having such jitters, wow. I'm very very excited too all at once. My mind is swirling with all the thought of school, nerves, praying I'm smart enough when it comes down to the core. I have 3 children, a husband and 3 dogs, can I juggle everything? laundry, dinners, cleaning house? Is anyone else having such nursing school jitters? I've worked so hard for this, now I'm here and now I'm stressed..

I am reading everyones schedule and I am a little worried about mine. We don't seem to have half as much school time as everyone else. Atleast from what I am gathering of the catalog.

We have class mon/wed 8am-2:20 and Clinicals Tuesday 7a-8pm. That's it. We have to sign up for skills lab but it's open 5 days a week and you fit it in when you can. I love the schedule for my kids sake I'll be able to pick them up from school (except on Tuesday) So my child care issues are minimal. 4 days in a row to study is great, however, I have heard there are two tests every week wed/thursday and we have clinical all day on tuesdays so there will be no studying the day before LOL.

I don't have as much class as everyone else either! I haven't picked my schedule yet because we don't get to until December, but I have already picked mine out and it isn't NEAR as much as everyone else has and I am in an accelerated program...:uhoh3:

Here is my tentative schedule:

M-OFF

T-Clinicals (basically all day)

W-9am-3pm

Th-9am-11:30am

F-OFF

Sat-OFF

Sun-OFF

Nurse2bAmy: Did you get your loans figured out yet?? I just found out today that my school wouldn't let me get the school certified private loans through them so now I have to get the evil private loans! I am so bummed out!

Ahh that sucks! I only got half $12,000 of the $20,000 I need. So I called them yesterday and asked if I could give them $10,000 ( I need $2,000 for Christmas and other things, shoes, book bags, etc for school) and I told them I'd pay them all my income tax return which is usually large and then pay the rest of the $3000 or $4000 off in payments? They agreed, told me not to worry all is okay, wow! I cannot believe it was that simple. In fact I go in for my Interview on the 3rd I'm so nervous. Have you already went in for an interview, if so, what did it involve?

Wow! I wish mine was the simple. I have been calling the school and the bank about my loan back and forth for like 2 weeks and running in circles trying to get everything taken care of. Hopefully this loan I am about to apply for will get to me in time...

An interview for what??

Man, I hope you get it all straight before school, I know how stressful this can all be and thats the LAST thing you need! Not along with normal pre-nursing school jitters.

Well at my private school I have to go in for an Interview. They interview each and every student, like a job. We have to get all dressed up and sit before the director and they'll ask questions like:

1. Why do you want to be a nurse.

2 Why did you choose our school?

3 Where do you see yourself in 5 yrs, 10 yrs. etc.

4 How do you handle stressful situations

5 What would you do if you found a classmate cheating

6 What makes you unique / strong?

you know, things like that! In which I'm not usually good under pressure. lol whew.

So when will you find out about your new loan?

Oh my gosh! We don't have to do that at our school....So you got accepted and you STILL have to interview? I have never heard of this. Unless they are going to surprise me!! haha.

I probably won't know about my new loan until next week at the earliest. I know I will be approved, it is just a matter of WHEN I will get it. I am quitting my job next month so I need that money! Ha

I am paying out of pocket for my classes, books, everything. I was getting tuition reimbursement, but not anymore, so I decided I don't want loans to pay off after school, so I will just pay it as I go. I am done with pre-req's, so I have the Nursing classes to pay for only.

My schedule is as follows (from Jan-May)

Monday: 4:30PM - 9:50PM Clinicals

Wednesday: 4:30PM - 5:20 PM Test

Wednesday: 5:30 PM - 8:20 PM Lecture

Thursday: 4:30 PM - 6:50 PM Lab

I start RN Jan 14, but my first semester is basically half days. After the first 6 weeks of fundamentals, we have a full day of clinicals on Thurs. Doesn't seem like much compared to my husbands first semester of LPN

What school are you going to go too?

I am still talking myself into starting on January 14th :chair:. I have four young children to schlep around and I am so worried how I'm going to maintain my sanity and theirs through two years of nursing school. I am not worried about the house or laundry, I am more worried about the stress of getting kids out of bed earlier than they are used to (this won't happen until my second 8 wk class), dropping my littlests off for some stranger to care for :(, driving around like a madwoman from school to daycare, and the older kid's school so I don't go over my time limits with latch key and daycare. I have such inner turmoil I don't know what to do with myself! I have a fear of the unknown, which is my main problem. This could all work out okay, like a well-oiled machine. I could be fretting over nothing. I just feel like I am about to put six people through hell. Why am I so worried? At least we sort of get to ease into my new routine, it won't be a big shock to the system for us. I don't think. I don't know :uhoh3:!

WOW, i know what you mean. I'm not sure who is goin to be more stressed the family or me?? I am soo glad my youngest at home is 14 yrs. old, but I take her to school now because I can and starting in Jan. she is goin to have to ride the bus and don't know anyone on it. We just moved to this school this school year.:uhoh3: So she is not lookin forward to that, BUT she should only have to ride the bus 2 days a week.. I'm not worried about the house either. Just the thought about not being able to go and be with the family, we are all 3 together ALL the time, when not in school.

Oh well with GODS help and our will WE WILL MAKE IT...:monkeydance:
