I just wanted to know what nursing is like in Russia. Are the standards different from here in the U.S.? What is the scope of practice? I am interested in overseas nursing, and Russia is one of the places I have been praying about. Any input is greatly appreciated! ÑпаÑибо!
Thank you! FYI, I was born in Russia and adopted from there. To be very clear: I am not going because of politics. By no stretch of the imagination do I agree with or support communism, or Mr. Putin! My interest is to serve people in third-world countries. Thanks for the pics. However, though I do love debating politics, please keep this thread on topic. Actually.......that may not be possible....seeing everything is government run.................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh well, as much as possible.
It's the internetz, threads go wild all the time. Healthcare in much of the world IS a political topic.
OP, I just cannot stop to wonder why wouldn't you like to serve poor populations in your own country to begin with. I had to drive through the city of Flint, Michigan yesterday and had to take off freeway because of roadwork... wow, if that particular place is any better than any third-world country, I really do not know.
Also, almost any metro area nowadays has charity clinics for urban poor and immigrants. If you find such place in your local "Russian neighborhood", you may start to volunteer there.
I understand you concern. Actually, volunteering is a great idea. I have volunteered as a babysitter a few times at a homeless shelter in Atlanta.
It is not that I am trying to ignore problems here in the U.S. To be sure, I do not yet know what I will do when I am out of college. Russia been a desire, but I am open to serving Jesus no matter where He leads me, either her in the U.S. or overseas.
I will certainly look into opportunities near me. I just posted because I want to know what nursing is really like in Russia.........kind of to make sure I do not have imagined ideas........if you know what I mean!
Thanks a lot!
People often tell me there are Americans who need help, too, why can't I stay and help them? The US has a lot of nurses, most of whom can't or don't want to leave the country. They can take care of the immigrant clinics and social services in Detroit. I'm doing good work in a developing country, and I don't feel any particular responsibility to help Americans before I help other people. I haven't been to Flint, but I can't imagine the problems are anything like what they are in sub-Saharan Africa. (Those pictures of Russia are not a shock.)
Russia is more "backward" in more ways than I think most Americans can imagine. Moral backwardness. A society of morals was disrupted throughout the communist period but the "gangster capitalism" of the 90's killed it off. Strength, and patina are what matters. Cynicysim is the order of the day. Everyone is a liar so there is a false equivalency between governments. USA=Russia in terms of rights and lies. It is not true of course, but this is what the Russians believe. They desire their egos' back. That has them ready to sell their souls for someone to blame. Therefore Russia is the place to be. It is incumbent upon those of us who have had the luxury of western wealth, to be compassionate, and give. But I would not want to be a nurse there. I would also hope that our politicians are as wary as our military of the regime/people. The people have been easily led due to historical circumstance. The politicians know that their people want an enemy to focus their pain on. That is the USA. More people in this country must know this, so we can start focusing on Russia, and working to integrate our cultures. It is that...or......

My Russian is far from perfect but it's essentially comparing everything Putin has spent millions of dollars on in comparison to the hospital condition Russian citizens face. His presidential palace, yacht, I believe the inside of his airplane... disheartening to say the least.
