I just wanted to know what nursing is like in Russia. Are the standards different from here in the U.S.? What is the scope of practice? I am interested in overseas nursing, and Russia is one of the places I have been praying about. Any input is greatly appreciated! ÑпаÑибо!

Are you fluent in spoken and written Russian?
No. Right now I am trying to learn it on the side while in nursing school! Its kind of when I have the time. Afterward, though, I want to really work on it. Right now I am just looking for information on working in the country itself.....whether or not I will be able to go is another matter.

Nursing in Russia has nothing in common with one in US. NOTHING. There is no ADN, BSN or MSN, all nurses have 2 or 3 years of technical school with zero admission standards. Nurses still officially considered "doctor's helpers" as well as handmaidens. It is unknown to refuse a doctor anything at all, including intimate favors. Scope of practice is zero, you do what you told to do and shut up. There are hardly any CENAs, nurses do all their job in addition to their own. There is no ethical standards, no professionalism. Pay is at or below official poverty line. Nurses are not trusted, not respected and commonly considered as stupid handmaidens good only to entertain doctors while on night call. Add to this rasism, officially propagated xenophobia, antiAmericanism which worse now than in 1980th and extremely low life standards.
Whew! That would be a place to work! They still are some fifty years behind in some things. Sounds interesting, thanks for the input.
Look here in a couple of days, I will find you some pics to think about. They are not 50 years behind, more like 150+.
Here, there is something. All pictures done within the last year in different Russian hospitals with some from archives, so you may be assured that nothing changed that much for the last 100 years. Except for a few - you will recognize them without problems - from a modest hamlet of His Majesty Mr. Putin. Also, for a contrast, there are couple of pics from Joe DiMaggio Children's in Florida (AFAIK, the room is in BMT/Chemo unit; this procedure is currently available for about 5% of children who need it in Russia. The rest either lingers for a while and dies or parents somehow collect money to send their little ones abroad so they might live. Emigration is the only one available option for children who need any solid organ transplant, any gender correction surgery, hip replacement before age of 18 and a dozen or so advanced heart/great vessels procedures. There is ONE electroohysiology lab for the whole country to treat children with severe arrythmias, and not a single one stereotactic brain mapping system).

Wow, I'm glad I clicked on this thread, I had no idea Russia was like that.
Mindofmidwifery,
These are from just a few of modest hamlets of Mr. Putin. Just to help him to relax a little and invite a few friends for a cup of tea once in a while, you know.
Thank you! FYI, I was born in Russia and adopted from there. To be very clear: I am not going because of politics. By no stretch of the imagination do I agree with or support communism, or Mr. Putin! My interest is to serve people in third-world countries.
Thanks for the pics. However, though I do love debating politics, please keep this thread on topic. Actually.......that may not be possible....seeing everything is government run.................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh well, as much as possible.
